Morrisons suspends staff for wearing a Poppy

I've seen the report in the Huffington Post and even they have printed the suspension letter complete with Morrison employee names.
The headline says:
but it wasn't a Lee Rigby tribute poppy, was it?
It was a 2012 Remembrance poppy that he decided was a tribute to the soldier sadly murdered last week.
Apparently Morrisons have revised their stance on staff in non-food areas not being allowed to wear registered charity wristbands.
I wonder what the replies would have been if someone posted "I found a 2012 Remembrance poppy badge in my Morrison's granary loaf"?
Exactly! Morrison's, sadly, cannot win either way here due to actually being sensible. I, for one, am glad that people working in food prep areas in a store are not permitted to wear any old item of jewelry that they desire, or charity wristbands (least of all because the wrists are a hive of bacteria buildup!) because it is unhygienic and unprofessional on top. We don't know where that wristband has been, nor do we know where that poppy has been. As you say, it's a 2012 one... which means it's been sitting around for months now; and for all we know, underneath a cat litter tray.
Unfortunately, reactionary muppets like Louise Mensch who take to Twitter to promote their pseudo-patriotic spiel (despite the fact she doesn't live here anymore and has a picture of New York as her Twitter banner) won't consider this or blatantly ignore it so that they can mobilise their followers into abusing some poor Morrison's rep on Twitter due to the supposedly horrid slight against the armed forces.
And you know, on another note, I'd rather not be reminded of a horrific murder when shopping for bread and cheese.0 -

It's on the BBC now and apparently Morrisons have said that they allow poppies in October and November

I think that's fair dos, personally. I'm a bit black and white about these sorts of thing, but I do feel that endless outpourings of public support can dilute everything. If you have poppies all year round then what do you do at Remembrance Sunday? Have even bigger poppies? A bit like one minute silences - a beautiful way of showing your respect and for really heinous events, two minutes seem appropriate. But three? Four? Where does it all end? Will we all be stood heads bowed for half an hour when something really, really awful happens?

Anyone know if Morrisons are still doing half price on Ben and Jerrys/ Haagen Daas ice cream? - I meant to pick up a tub when I got an offers leaflet but forgot about it.0

Who 'leaked' the letter?
According to the BBC website, the employee posted it on Facebook.
It's headed "Private and confidential" - what part of "Private and confidential" does this man not understand? :huh:runningwoman wrote: »Anyone know if Morrisons are still doing half price on Ben and Jerrys/ Haagen Daas ice cream? - I meant to pick up a tub when I got an offers leaflet but forgot about it.
