Morrison has issued a statement confirming the letter and suspension is indeed true

Not seen an original story and can't access the link there on my work computer - anyone have the full picture? Do they have a policy on all charity symbols/badges?

Probably right in my opinion. Where would Morrisons draw the line otherwise when it comes to expressing personal support for organisations? What if someone wanted to wear an EDL membership badge on their name badge? Morrisons have a dress code and so expect staff to abide by it. What people do and wear in their own time is their choice but when representing a company, should abide by its codes.

I used to work in a well known food shop ( :D ) and I was told the first year I worked there that a poppy "wasnt part of the uniform policy" and "if someone from head office came in, you'd be in trouble"

I refused to take it off and surprise surprise, I didnt get in trouble from anybody in the long run. In fact, in inspired more people to wear them.

    1 - it's against their uniform policy
2 - they were REASONABLY asked to remove it as it contravenes uniform policy
3 - they were previously REASONABLY asked to remove a charity wristband as it too contravened uniform policy
4 - they will be disciplined now not only for contravening uniform policy but also for direct insubordination & refusal to follow a reasonable request which it could be argued is grounds for gross misconduct.

The workplace ladies and gentlemen is NOT a place for political statements it is a place for WORK. When there is prescribed uniform standards your job is predicated on you following these, like it nor not these exist for a reason and should be followed without question. Regardless as to what you think the Poppy can be seen as a political statement, something which could be very damaging for business and regardless as to if you like it or not, it is the manager's job to protect brand image.

I see no reason for the member(s) of staff to avoid disciplinary proceedings and I would infact be willing to sack them for their conduct.
Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.

Good move - it is not part of the uniform, i see no reason to for them to be worn in work.

I also hate that the bbc/ITV seem to make everyone wear them - even people who aren't british and probably wouldn't otherwise wear them

I believe it's a blanket policy in most workplaces that emblems of organisations are not allowed on uniforms.

I think you should remove the names of the 5 members of staff referred to in the letter in the link.

I would be bloody furious if a letter relating to my job (e.g. store personal manager) and showing my name was posted on a public forum.

"When in Rome, do as the "Romans do".

The Poppy came to represent the immeasurable sacrifice made by various generations who gave their youth, some their health and others gave their lives to keep this country free.

Perhaps it may be considered over sentimental by younger generations but my father fought in WWII and was badly injured, many of his friends never came back.

I don't think it is asking too much for people to wear a poppy in Remembrance. As to firms who do not allow their staff to wear a poppy, I will not give my custom to them and will let them know why.

As to foreigners who may not want to wear them, that is up to them, but it might behove them to think on whether this country would have been free for them to come to if not for the sacrifice made by previous generations.

Obviously not a popular view nowadays, but it is mine and hopefully Iam still free to say so!
