It looks like some weird, rubbish stunt to me. What's up with the band and the badge put ON the letter?

Is that as a reminder, or so that we're all stimulated to take a stand? :rotfl::rotfl:

"...oh, look. Lets get an angry mob together to all go into Morrisons and throw the reduced price cupcakes at people, that'll show them."

    Blimming hell :rotfl:

PS my man is serving, and he and his colleagues really don't give a monkeys over things like this - he's just a bloke who does a job he likes, not something to be "used" as a political statement. It seems to be more angry little hangers on with no real connection to the Forces who get worked up over stuff like this.

PSS Morrisons does some good cheap soap

Perhaps your man and his mates don't, but families of men who were injured or killed in previous wars do, most of them anyway.

The rest of your post is ridiculous.

God forbid any harm should come to your man and his mates.

"When in Rome, do as the "Romans do".

The Poppy came to represent the immeasurable sacrifice made by various generations who gave their youth, some their health and others gave their lives to keep this country free.

Perhaps it may be considered over sentimental by younger generations but my father fought in WWII and was badly injured, many of his friends never came back.

I don't think it is asking too much for people to wear a poppy in Remembrance. As to firms who do not allow their staff to wear a poppy, I will not give my custom to them and will let them know why.

As to foreigners who may not want to wear them, that is up to them, but it might behove them to think on whether this country would have been free for them to come to if not for the sacrifice made by previous generations.

Obviously not a popular view nowadays, but it is mine and hopefully Iam still free to say so!

Some of the BBC presenters etc are actually Irish and would never wear the poppy at home, as to a large number of people in Ireland it is supporting the British army who did anything but good in large parts of Ireland.

Personally I have no objection to the poppy but it is a political symbol and politics has no place in work and no-one should feel forced or co-erced into wearing it.

If the poppy really was simply to remember those soldiers killed in WW1/2 etc then i would more inclined to support it, but it is seen a memorial to all soldiers killed not just those during WW1 & WW2 - and the money goes towards supporting ex-servicemen as well as those currently serving.

Good move - it is not part of the uniform, i see no reason to for them to be worn in work.

I also hate that the bbc/ITV seem to make everyone wear them - even people who aren't british and probably wouldn't otherwise wear them

Who exactly 'makes' you wear a poppy? I have never had Paxman at my house demanding that I put one on!:rotfl:

We have a day set aside for exactly this.

Remembering sacrifice both past and present is important...but not being a martyr to it is healthy too.

While you are free (thanks in no small part to these people) to have your view so are those with an opposing view, And to dictate to them with threatening in the manner done in OP, or to withhold trade..not for an act but for an opinion, is abhorrent to that very freedom faught for IMO.

I would have hoped we were well beyond metaphorical white feathers by now, accepting that living in harmony might mean agreeing to disagree. It makes perfect sense for an employer to ask people not to make various shows of anything to ensure smooth day to day operation. We're employees to be discriminated against for wearing a poppy out of work hours and uniform I think would be a different matter and abhorrent.

I think you should remove the names of the 5 members of staff referred to in the letter in the link.

I would be bloody furious if a letter relating to my job (e.g. store personal manager) and showing my name was posted on a public forum.

Bit late - it's already gone viral on every social networking site I'm a member of!

I meant everyone that appears on the BBC/ITV - news reporters, people being interviewed etc

If I was at Morrison HQ I would be gritting my teeth and wishing this pernickity store manager had turned a blind eye to the poppy. At this moment this is negative publicity they could do without!

Although I can understand why she was disciplined as she disobeyed instructions from senior members of staff.

Hmm.. I would say there can be strong pressure to wear one. I love ion 'MOD country' and not to wear one in the first fortnight in November is pretty dangerous. :) Not with anyone I know actually I in the MoD, but retired services, and mainly the 'institutions' that exist....churches, village shops, schools even. Similarly, I am aware of City work aces where it would be 'a poor decision' to not wear one.
