I have to say, I'm actually with vroombroom on this. If the only holiday I could afford was camping or caravanning in England I'd rather not have a holiday at all. I can think of nothing worse than being wet, cold and miserable in a tent or caravan, it's not a holiday, it's an ordeal.

i'll chime in and say tent or caravan is not my idea of fun either.

My idea of hell would be a camping holiday ANYWHERE but I really can't stand the snobby attitude of those who "couldn't possibly vacation in Britain Dah-ling". Britain just like "abroad" has great holidays and not so great holidays . I think of plenty of non UK destinations I wouldn't go to if you paid me and well as some fabulous ones .

If we had summers and everywhere weren't so damn expensive I'd happily holiday in England and long as it were a proper hotel or self catering, but we don't and it is.

It costs as much for accommodation in the UK as it does for a whole holiday elsewhere, unfortunately there are lots of greedy owners who have priced themselves out of the average family holiday market. Why would I pay a fortune and not even get nice weather?

Wow I really did come across as militant camping mum, sorry, I'm really not, it just gets to me that so many people ignore the beauty of the British isles.
I accept that camping isn't for everyone but I would always say give it a go you might be surprised!

We go wherever the mood take us, where the kids will enjoy and where we will enjoy. I can't think of anything worse than a holiday you "only" have for your kids enjoyment.

So we have been to New Zealand, Paris (with 2 days at DLP), Tunisia (sun and culture), Scotland (lots of outdoor play and beaches), Wales, Southend, London, Cornwall, Maldives and 3 week tour of Asia last summer. When they were little, I used to take advantage of Travelodge offers quite a bit and we had a ball travelling round the UK where I could find a deal.

Can honestly say the kids just enjoy sleeping in a bed which isn't theirs! The experiences they've had on each of these holidays has been immense and I speak with experience that tucked up in a caravan in the New Forest playing cards together while the heavens open is just as much fun as holed up in a Cambodian coffee shop playing cards together whilst the heavens open.

My idea of hell is also staying in a tent or caravan and my parents too so luckily they never took us on any holidays like that, but we did go on farm holidays in the UK mainly in devon, breaks in Wales and centre parcs, and we'd stay with my grandparents on the south coast & visit the Isle of Wight. Infact I'm in Devon now, been sunbathing all day! But were staying in a rented bungalow, no tents! :)

Me and my sister got travel sick so things like driving to France was out of the question plus I know my Dad would just rather fly and not waste time in the car.

So we went abroad nearly every year, we did Disney World twice, stayed in a lovely villa and I will most definitely want to take my children there because its such a special holiday to have as a child. We also went to various places in the US, and Greece a lot. We loved trying new foods & making friends with other kids on the beach.

There is no way id want to always go on holiday in the UK I love visiting new countries and cultures.

Our family holidays were always to Portrush for a week to stay in a friends caravan. When it was sold on, we rented a caravan in Benone instead. My parents have never been outside the UK/Ireland. My first foreign holiday was when I was 19, and I've been on a total of 5. Planning to head away foreign this summer for first time in 6 years. Probably last-minute cheap-as-chips right enough, but still :D

I'll admit camping is not for me. I'm too selfish and lazy to trek down to a washhouse to wash dishes and I'd rather have my kids entertained than have to think of how to entertain them. As a single parent, I liked to go places where there was adult company and time off from cooking and cleaning.

The OP is thinking about spending quite a bit of cash for a couple of days in Eurodisney. Geez - you don't even have guaranteed good weather in Paris! Seriously, if this is about what kids like best they can have as good a time on a beach in Morar than they can in the Algarve. It's whether parents can thole it out...

Having said that, I think it's really sad that so many people think there's nothing to see in the UK, yet believe "travel" is Benidorm, Ibiza and Orlando..

I've been to DLP and I was about 30 and it was a group thing that someone else wanted to do and I still loved it. I would definitely want to take children there, but the idea of spending that much for two days... I think it makes an out of season trip appealing - although it can be freezing in February and warm clothes on sale there are disgustingly expensive, as you would expect. I like camping, but I agree you can be wet, I don't see why you would be wet in a caravan. they have heating and are dry and laundrettes have tumble driers if needed. The downside of a caravan is the cleaning. I think I would rather several holidays a year and budget on them all rather than one blow out - a cheap "sun" holiday, camping, Travelodge, maybe something like Benidorm... If you could combine DLP with some time in Paris, though, that would be perfect.
