The point is, that it doesn't have to cost that much.

Thats not the point, thats your opinion...I clearly said I would go regardless of cost.

We go on holiday twice a year - always abroad. Our son has just turned 2 a month ago and in June we go to Portugal on what will be his 5th holiday (6th in Oct).

Camping, UK holidays, caravans etc are just not our thing, *shudder*

as for DLP, saving to go to DLF for son's 5th birthday in 2016 x

Why on earth would the thought of a holiday in the uk make you shudder?
We have done both holiday s abroad and uk camping holidays, campervan, tent and caravan, and the holidays the kids have loved the most have been the camping.
In our campervan we travelled from manchester to cornwall through wales and we had an amazing time, the scenery in the uk is absolutely amazing and I love showing the kids how beautiful their country is.
When camping we sit under the stars every night by a campfire, chatting, singing, playing rounders and cricket it's bliss!
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

We are lucky in that my MIL part owns the house she grew up in on the Gower. We can stay there whenever and usually go for 2 weeks at Easter and 2 in the summer. Kids are 5, 3 and 6 months, we just knock around the beaches, a couple of castles, the WWT site near Llanelli, day trip on the train to Tenby, that kind of thing. Love it :-)

It's not my sort of thing - nor my OH's. Staying in a tent or caravan where its pretty much guaranteed to rain is just not something we would do.

I was lucky enough to grow up in Europe so got to see a lot of places growing up. Travel is very important to me (I worked abroad too, have a degree in tourism and speak 2 other languages fluently) and I want my son to enjoy the things I enjoyed growing up - languages, culture, different foods, different people etc and I don't think a week in Haven will do that - not judging people who do those sort of holidays, you just won't see me on them ;)

Then perhaps the shudder wasn't appropriate, and camping is not a week at haven, the camp sites we go to have a tap a loo and a view which is all you need.
Travel from one end of the country to the other and I can guarantee you will experience different languages, culture, food and people!
What on earth will you do if you are in a position not to be able to afford to go abroad?
    Never have a holiday again?

All right love, no need to get all defensive! So we have differing view on how to spend holidays - so what?

As long as the other half and I have jobs then we'll always be in a position to go on holiday. As I said, they are very important to us and we work hard, budget and save to go away twice a year.

Oh and I have travelled the width and breadth of the country with my job before my son, so I'm lucky to have seen a lot of it. Still would not give up my week in the sun and sangria for a week in England.

I have to say, I'm actually with vroombroom on this. If the only holiday I could afford was camping or caravanning in England I'd rather not have a holiday at all. I can think of nothing worse than being wet, cold and miserable in a tent or caravan, it's not a holiday, it's an ordeal.

I've done Disneyland and DLP. For the cash it costs, I don't think it's worth it.

I done Disneyland Florida as a child and yes I loved the parks but I hated being on the go constantly, hated the villa we stayed in, much preferred our holidays to Cornwall and package holidays abroad where I'd meet other kids my age and spend the 2 weeks with them, splashing around in the pool, eating ice creams etc. I didn't make any friendships like that in Florida :o that's just me though so my memories just aren't as great from there and I know how much my parents sacrificed to take me.

We've done WD W Florida many times and I wish I had a £ for everytime overheard a parent say to their moaning child " we've saved up years to bring you here " lol

I've no desire to go back tbh , it can be a very tiring and stressful holiday
