I feel the same way about the 'entitled to' mentality of some people.
Just where do you think this benefit money comes from? No tax payers = no benefit money.
I'm talking about the tax payers who act high and mighty as though they are in charge of benefits and patronise those who legally claim them for reasons outside of those which affect their entitlement, such as the way they spoke (because of the trouble they've been through for the past year!), not those who make a tax related comment about someone trying to fraudulently claim.
Of course I'm aware that without tax payers there would be no benefits. Have the people with this 'entitled' mentality which you refer to been directly criticising tax payers? If not, then why bring up the last part? We know people pay tax, but if someone is legally entitled to benefits that's all that matters and there's nothing else to discuss.
However I do believe there are better ways of expressing yourself than the way in which the OP did.0 -
People with the attitude of Keith1950 and Evenasus would feel completely different if they had worked for 40 years paying their taxes and national insurance and became incapable of work with confirmation from Hospital Consultants and GPs only to have an "ATOS Professional" (Who may not even have any medical experience, never mind might not be a doctor) declare them fit for work and then have to spend 2 years on "assessment rate" ESA which is more than £25 less than they should be receiving. During which time you tend to go into debt and have to spend time and money collecting the evidence to prove to Tribunal that they were not fit to work during this time you are also branded and treated as a fraud and liar and in my case also have your monies stopped for no reason whatsoever.
Then when you eventually go to Tribunal, DWP do not even bother to send a representative and the Judge after he and his panel agree you were not fit for work and conclude that in their opinion should not require reassessment for at least 2 years.
Then a week after DWP have received the judgement to be told they are arranging another assessment for you in 10 days, which you then have to argue about and threaten all sorts of action for the DWP say that you do not need to attend the new assessment as it was only to find out if you needed even more help than the Tribunal agreed............Yeah Right !!
Then the following week have your money stopped again for no reason, which you enquire about only to be told there is no reason for it to have occured so they will pay you 3 working days later ! at which point you also enquire when the new rate and back money will be paid and then get told DWP know nothing about the Tribunal decision (remembering that it has previously been confirmed that they have received it).
Now tell me you would still have your benefit scroungers attitude ?
National Insurance is very much like any other insurance, in that you pay it and hope that you do not have to claim, but if you have to claim at least that safety net is there.
Unfortunately for many honest people that safety net is pulled from underneath you !!0 -

So you think/know that the OP has never paid any tax?
And in fact even though you are not working you don't pay tax?
Words fail me at times about some posters on here.0 -

So you are on Benefits then !!!
But your benefit and any other income is that much higher than the OP that you have to pay income tax, so by your own thinking should you be getting the State Pension that pushes you ionto an Income Tax bracket ?
Or, will your reply to such a statement be "I'm Entitled" ?
You really haven't thought through your position and opinions properly have you !!!!
Despite what I have said above I am not advocating State Pension being means tested, I am a great believer in "If you have contributed to the system you are entitled to the Benefit as and when you require them" The statements I made were to highlight how little thought you have put into your stance.
A great little rule to live by is "Think First, Speak Second".
By the way, to everybody on the forum with any opinions on the benefits system, either pro or con may I suggest a piece of reading material...........The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist by Robert Tressell which was first publish in 1914 but which is now having a bit of a renaissance, probably because Britain today somewhat mirrors Britain in 1910 when the book was written. Please read it because you will recognise today's Britain and it's situations, attitudes and opinions and it should open your eyes no matter what side of the fence you stand.0 -
And in true MSE style, you can even read it for free, either downloaded to your Kindle or on the free Kindle app for your phone or computer
