I take it you wish to choose your Lawyers? since most of MSE is on the lower end of the income scale would you like the State to force a solicitor on you?
In addition because of the profit motive with G4S actually be under pressure to assume you are a criminal in the system rather than innocent?
The daily mail is being used by the MOJ to push propaganda on the legal profession.
I have and continue to read Lawyers blogs etc and I am seeing an genuinely alarming picture.
I am expecting MSE to give me a hard time and be biased against the petition but I believe I have a case for the defence.

The government wants to reduce the law firms no from 1,6 00 to 400, lawyers firms will shut, lawyers will be thrown off onto the dole and skills lost. Paralegals and recently qualified lawyers will take cases for which they are not qualified and hence will lose it. Cases that were lost for an inexperiienced lawyer were later corrected by a QC. Correctly staffed and run cases will stop miscarriages of justice.

The Daily Fail figures are deliberately misleading. They do include VAT (but don't say that they do), don't state how many clients each firm represented, don't state the average hourly rate for legal aid lawyers, the average lawyer salary. Read the comments on the article for a dose of reality.

The lawyers who have earned the big fees might have been working on one case for 2-3 years. They only get paid once it ends. The names of top earners change every year as a result.

The Fail have also included human rights law earnings. These proposals are about criminal legal aid. Totally different things. Totally misleading thing to do.

Do you honestly think that she deserves to earn less for all that hard work? What do you think is a fair wage?

Legal aid rates have been cut twice since 2010. You didn't hear anything about it then, did you? The lawyers just took it. If this was just about pay you wouldn't be hearing anything about it.

Under these proposals lawyers will get a financial incentive for clients to plead guilty without going to trial. Do you think that sounds like a fair / just idea? When 45% of people who go to trial get found not guilty? When the police and CPS routinely make mistakes and people love to falsely accuse each other out of malice?

Make your own decision about the petition, but don't be fooled into thinking this is just about pay.

I hope that MSE will read the links and just let the real facts sink in. Surely there is more to MSE than resorting to the Daily Mail for facts?

There has more or less been a Media Blackout. It was only on the last day of the MOJ Consultation ' Transforming Legal Aid' which I contributed too, that the BBC did anything at all.
I've been on Twitter all this time and I saw with my own eyes HISTORY BEING MADE BY LAWYERS DEMONSTRATING FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!! and did the BBC or mainstream Media report it NO! HISTORY was made and not a winkle!

Because of the Tories doing the LASPO act, many of MSE benefits claimants will not be able to take cases to court because YOUR CUDDLY TORY GOVERNMENT has removed Welfare Law from the Legal Aid provisions, along with Family Law see MSE on loads of stuff! employment law see all the things discussed on work and job seeking boards. AND MSE DOES NOT REALISE IT!!!!!! WAKE UP!!
