It is heartening to see the views now nearly almost 3K.
I notice my usual Stalkers/MSE 'Friends' are conspicious by their absence. I wonder how much MSE Martin is himself of the issues involved or of their solving? Him signing would be a coup. And one would be justifiably bold in pursuing him for it.
I don't think MSE knows what it is up against.
The Welfare Advice Sector has suffered decimating cuts and Welfare Rights Workers made redundant.
Law Centres have closed down meaning Legal advice for the most vulnerable is again threatened.
I am not a Lawyer but what little I have read has convinced me without doubt that the Legal Profession and the Legal System as it currently stands has a case, and I am proud to be 'defending' them against, with elite few others on twitter, against the avalanche of misunderstanding that is levelled against them by the likes of the DM.
I can accept I am not currently popular or thanked or highly esteemed on MSE on account of my position, but i view it as a temporary storm to be ridden in all its pain because there are greater gains to be had-one is I have many Lawyers and serious Legal bodies ie the Criminal bar Association following me.
I am sorry that MSE views me as having my nose in the trough. This can be countered by recourse to Media Law developments and proper protocol both online and off. The relationships above kept proper and above board behaving in proper honour.
MSE is MISTAKEN because you think I will spam MSE with links.
These links are the best way of convincing you of what is going on and of adding my own original thoughts as is worthy of me.
The same with other supporters on here.
We have tonnes of links well worth taking the time to read and a hefty argument or two to counter the misunderstanding here.

I am having more fun putting the, Non Lawyer- Citizens argument for the above.
I tell you you are MISSING OUT ! you don't know what you are missing! More people 'getting it' mean a greater body who can take the pain means that in some small way The Lawyers and the Legal System are protected from the barrrage of unlawful actions undertaken by non Lawyer LC.

You seem to be doing a lot of assuming as well - you are assuming that the representation you get from a privatised firm would be worse than you would get in the current situation. DO YOU HAVE PROOF OF THAT?

As you will notice from the article: there is no proper time to spend time with the client in order to get the details of the story and win their trust.
Legal Aid recipients will not be able to choose their own Brief and will have a different one on each term. This will increase stress, make it more difficult to get info for the case and create distrust between the legal profession and the clientele.
Effective cases depend on securing the trust of the client so you can get at the story and be instructed accordingly.
First stage.
Second stage, because of the profit motive the temptation is to pile 'em high sell 'em cheap so instead of properly done advocacy to with proper and appropriate time in court, the likes of Stobart will wish to plead for guilty verdicts.
Innocent people being convicted and guilty people going free mean miscarriages of justice.
Because of the LASPO act welfare, employment and family law being taken out of Legal Aid you will get LIP's Litigents in person who don't have the ability to represent themselves-though you do get good ones, and so will fail at court.
The same company ie G4S will convict you, drive to prison and rehabilitate you. Is that justice??? where are the independent lawyers like the Independent bar? Is this how MSE wishes to do Law?

There are currently 1,600 Firms both Chambers and Soliticitors in their various flora and fauna. Grayling wants to cut this to 400.
The Firms have spent years developing niche specialisms that benefit the public because the lawyers concerned will be able to run a case properly from it's inception to trial etc. They will be able to get right combi of lawyers for case depending on complexity thereof.
Lawyers will be thrown onto the dole instead of being out there working all hours god sends.
Serco, G4S etc are department store firms, and have not got the specialist expertise won over the years.
The system as it currently stands helps promote justice and discourage miscarriages of justice on account of the expertise there is.

The American Legal aid system treats defendants as second class citizens not worthy of proper legal representation from appropriately qualified and experienced Lawyers. Because it is the latter that will ensure the correct verdict is reached and proper sentencing etc.
