are bob martin flea and deworming spot on product dangerous?

I gave my little girl cat Bob Martin flea spray when she was about a year old. She started fitting so I tried washing it off in the shower and took her straight to the vet. Turned out I shouldn't have tried washing it off as that just diluted it and got further into the skin. The vet told me he sees lots of these cases and would like to see Bob Martin taken off the market but nothing can be done. That was 15 years ago and I've used Stronghold ever since with no problem. I felt terrible having given my cat something so bad. You think products are safe if they are on sale in UK shops. Just shows you always have to do your research.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Any more posts you want to make on something you obviously know very little about?"
Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say.0 -
it caused a horrid burn mark on my late boy felix rest his furry soul,
he didnt writhe or aanything he just took the pain in his stride i only notice when stroking him after some hours that the furr in that area was falling out.
called the vet who said not to wash it, he reccomended getting a cotton pad and dabbing the area dry and let it dry out, and fetch him in.
poor boys temp was up suggesting the burn was deep, vet antiseptic sprayed the area and again dabbed with cotton pad, and then put cream on the area, gave him a shot of anti inflamotary and antibiotics, and had to go back in 2 days for check up.
he said that he had known of two other animal to have burns just after using bob martins spot on flea and tick treatment and phoned the company to check the batch and hopefully never return to the market but they didnt listen.0 -
I have to say that I'm really really shocked, I can't believe that a product that is so bad cannot be taken off the market.
There's a facebook group as well about it.0 -
Stay clear of bob martin we used a spot on for my cat years ago and she must of licked it and started to froth at the mouth and was sick. Wouldn't touch it again if u paid me. I use advantage and drontal for both my cat and dog which you can buy online for a good price. Cheaper than the vets anyway. I don't think flea collars work you'd be better just treating your home with a good spray like Indorex or RIP.
Fleas just jump on your dog for the ride and to feed I suppose but live in your home.0 -
please do not use that horrendous stuff on your animal. We used it on our border collie sheepdog a few years ago and he had a very bad reaction to it and we ended up losing him. It was awful seeing him in that much pain knowing that what we put on him caused his death. People think that because you can buy it over the counter from a supermaket that its ok to use. I wish I had looked up and seen all the reviews online as I would never have allowed that stuff anywhere near him.
Our vet wrote a report and sent it off to Bob Martin to say what had happened and ask why if they know its an ongoing problem are they still selling it? within a matter of days they had a reply just skirting around the problems with their product and had paid our vet bill in full (which we didnt ask for we just wanted to make them aware what had happened) I will never buy that product again and if i see someone picking it up in a shop I always run over to tell them. I know there are risks with anything you use but with this product there are just far too many and would hate for anyone to go through what we did with our dog x0 -
Bob Martin's standard response is that the product is safe, but the pet must have had an allergic response to it, which is unfortunate but not their fault.
I used to deal with claims made against them in a previous job and I found it so upsetting to read the letters.
I have also been known to accost people in shops if they look like they are about to buy it! I also hide it behind the other things so people can't see it.0 -
Appalling behaviour. And it's disgraceful that they are still allowed to sell it.0

There was a lady on here when I first started posting who had lost her beloved pet due to Bob Martins. I know from experience the stuff doesn't work anyway! and Atrix's cat really had a nasty burn!
I cannot believe they are still manufacturing this garbage - dangerous garbage too! please please NEVER buy any of their products!0 -
I'm going to spread the message too... (see new signature)0
