I've just given Sky a call and £7.50pm was the best they could offer. I mentioned BT's current offer of £5 a month, 5th one down here:

but he said they couldn't match it.

which dept did you speak to so I can try the same.....£7.50 pm is a good deal considering line rental with bt and previous yr at £5 and the 2 before that free

I phoned the number on the letter they sent telling me my contract was about to end 03332 022149

Yes, but the BT deal is £5pm (+£6.95 p&p), along with £50 cashback (on a pre-paid MasterCard). So effectively £1.41pm.

I don't think Sky will come down on the £7.50 offer without any other service. However, they offer free broadband with line rental.

Are you sure that the £5 BT broadband applies to existing customers , as I believe the link you give is to new customer offers (the new customer being required to take on line rental to qualify)?

AIUI it applies to new broadband customers. The MSE reference here:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband

says "Until Thu 14 Jan, BT newbies (those who don't currently have broadband with it) can get its Unlimited Broadband + Weekend Calls* package". An online chat with a BT rep seemed to confirm this.

What I'm not clear about is whether BT would allow me to retain my existing 'Special Low Price Anytime deal'....., their online chat person didn't seem to know.

If you are prepared to switch to them for line rental (as an ex o2 customer paying £5/month for just BB), then although they won't budge on the £7.50/month at the end of the £5/month year, they do offer free line rental for a year if you switch it to them.

£7.50 was their lowest price for people also taking line and a tv package, so with free line rental it's an excellent offer.

Up to now those that only wanted bb and refused other offers when we were forced to go to sky from o2 have been paying just £5/month (and only that when the free credit incentive runs out).

    That's me.
Mine is up for renewal in early March, and looking around there's not much on offer in the way of stand alone BB, £7.50 looks like a good deal, although not as good as £5. :)
I'm getting a decent deal with BT, free evening/weekend calls and free caller display.
Also for other reasons, I've recently renewed my LSR, so I'm locked into BT.
I use a payg for work and need a landline for the remaining calls, Sky etc don't seem able to match my current BT deal.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Who? Sky? I just called them - they offered just the BB at 7.50 a month, but when I mentioned moving my line rental over they were just like you can have it for the std rental rate (17.50/mo) but the BB for no charge.
