Unfortunately it just wasn't to be. Had an online chat but the advisor said there just wasn't any offers for me. Maybe my haggling skills are just pants.
I have my phone with the 'Post Office' and Line Rental Saver, still have months to run so unwilling to budge on that. I will probably end it taking bb wth PO for £8 monthly (no contract) until something better comes along as it is half the cost of what Sky is now.
I was also told I had to give them 14 days notice of cancellation. I decided to do some research on PO bb or other BB supplier before accepting it.
Just read Sky's T&C. Seems the advisor info was incorrect.
When you don’t need to contact Sky
If you’re switching your broadband and talk service from Sky to a new provider other than Virgin Media cable service, rather than cancelling your services completely, just place your order directly with your new provider without contacting Sky.0 -

Your new supplier gives the notice for you (so Sky gets the notice) as transfer is not instant.
You do realise that the Post Office service is now Talk Talk and that the best deals are when you have line and broadband from the same supplier (hence lack of Sky offer)?0 -

That clearly hasn't stop a few of us (a few post above me) from getting the same deals even if the line is separate, though they may have been lucky.
About the remark that Post Office now Talk Talk. Is that a hint that I shouldn't?
The advisor did say from now on, those without line rental won't be offered any deals.0 -
Anyone had any deal if you move landline to them?
have a bt line and sky bb, thinking of combining to get a better deal. either with bt or sky.0 -
Yeah. 12 month contract. Free unlimited BB, just pay for line rental (Pay as you talk, no call plan) £17.40 per month so £208.80 for the full term.
As I have a generous calling plan with my current provider, I told them I'll think about it.
It's just a shame that my phone provider's BB service looks to be so atrocious according to the reviews online otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to switch in a heartbeat.
I agree that 'harmonising' tel+bb is the way to go for better deals whenever the contract ends.0 -

Not at all, but some are unaware that TalkTalk have taken over and find themselves signing up with a company that they did not wish to trade with.0 -
I expect BT will dump EE Broadband at some point to reduce competition, most likely roll it into PlusnetThanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0

The advisor was correct. You do need to give 14 days notice of cancellation. I took broadband with BT where I already had my landline and thought I wouldn't need to contact sky to cancel but it didn't cancel when my BT broadband went live. When I contacted sky they said that was because I hadn't transfered land line, so I had to give notice from that point so in effect was paying for broadband from sky and BT for 14 days. I told sky I had previously been told by one of there advisors that I didn't need to cancel it would be done automatically when I joined BT and they then offered to give me a bill credit to cover the notice period so it didn't cost me.
But when switching broadband only from sky to your current land line provider you will have to cancel with sky.0 -
If you search these forums or Google you will see that Sky has "form" when it comes to notice.
From forcing people to call them to cancel

OFCOM were also involved with Sky termination after price hike

Personally I joined SkyBB recently after ditching their TV many years ago after the PVR rip off, I gave them a full months notice in Feb that I was going to give a months notice in March. They said I did not need to give notice, but I did anyway.
They continued to charge me till July, I made complaints but they did nothing, I then involved a consumer show and suddenly they credited it all back.
Sky are very good at making you jump through hoops, like making you wait on the line rather than accepting an email. Ofcom slapped them for that.
I plan to be with them for a year, I can't see them giving me a better offer at the end based on what I see here. I have my mifi router, so happy to go without for a few months to wait for the right deal.
However, even with the new system, I would always give a company I had a contract with, notice that I was ending that contract. We are seeing a lot of people lose their phone number or having one service cut but the other retained.
I think the whole MAC code thing was better.
Remember the energy companies when they used to pay commission only reps who came door to door or grabbed you in the street, they just took your name and address, then said you requested change of supplier. I see the same thing happening here. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
It's that time of year again. Does anybody know if Sky are offering any broadband only deals at the moment?
ThanksStompa0
