MSE News: Sky takes over O2 and Be broadband: What does this mean for customers?

I had few problems with O2, but Sky is much better, as it's about 15% faster and I've had only one loss of service (half an hour) in 10 months.
No problems for me either, in fact I'm actually happy to be paying them just £15pm for unlimited broadband, anytime calls and free line rental for a year (well, 11 months left now!).
Especially as BT rob dogs are putting line rental UP to £16.99pm soon, absolutely disgusting and they did NOTHING to try and keep my 20 years of custom.
No problems with SKY broadband speeds either, I must be lucky :j0 -
If you're transferring to another provider, I've read somewhere that you're not supposed to cancel to ensure your service continues - but a transfer seems to take 14 days, presumably that would mean you pay twice for a couple of weeks or so as you didn't give the full notice (the alternative being that you give notice and have to wait until your line is cancelled before you can arrange another provider?).To enable you to give notice to quit at the end of the minimum period then you need to see what they will offer no later than a month before your minimum term ends.
Of course, that's assuming you can switch from Sky to another LLU provider - there are reports of new lines being needed (at the exchange, rather than to the house I think).
I was aware of this when I switched to Sky but had hoped broadband switching would be sorted by now.0 -
The problem is that, last year, Sky put up it's line rental just after BT. We were protected, then, though, as line saver was available.General_query wrote: »No problems for me either, in fact I'm actually happy to be paying them just £15pm for unlimited broadband, anytime calls and free line rental for a year (well, 11 months left now!).

I remember, specifically, because an MSE member was having their offer processed, over the phone, when the price went up, so ended up paying the higher saver rate.0 -
Having posted a few weeks ago, That I have found Sky to be about 15% faster than O2, I now find that my speeds have dropped.
Over the weekend, just out of curiosity (no noticeable slow down), I did a speed test to find it down in the 4.6-4.8 range had with O2 at it's worst.
Assuming this was because of high bank holiday usage, I just checked and find it is only up to 5.2-5.4 (the best with O2) and none of the lovely 6+, I was getting earlier with Sky. (Perhaps they have taken on more customers in my area).0 -
I have found mine to be so slow since the change over, the sky technical team (?) suggested I invest in a wireless booster which is approx £23. I didn't have any issues with the many years with o2This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The Good:
Helpful forum (techie) contributors
Reduced Bill (switchover sweetener)
1571 / Caller Display Service included in Line Rental.
Speed can be 1+ Mbps higher when wind in right direction
The Bad:
Media streaming (i.e. You Tube) buffers too often
Sky Hub drops out and resets frequently
Speeds up / down
Customer Service lacking as too many technical support tiers with too much try this and try that before any real action.
Billing isn't clear0 -
I've had only one Sky drop out in 10 months and that was national, I believe, as a friend, who lives a couple of counties away, had the same down time.0

So what has everyone been offered?
I got a letter the other day, Im currently paying £15.40 for line rental, bb and family tv package.
Have been offered
broadband - £7.50
Line rental - £15.40
Family package - £16.
So way too much for me.
If anyone has any tips to get everything cheaper please post here
