Haggling with SKY

We are paying £80 all in for Sky and it seems a lot to me.
I keep asking OH to phone up and ask for a discount but he is reluctant to! Keep reading on here of folk getting great discounts!
£80 per month for Sky package, sports, line rental and inclusive calls, and unlimited broadband.
We cannot get Virgin broadband in our area yet, but can get BT.
My OH is happy to cancel the sky sports, but I am asking him to see if there are any other deals with BT that may be cheaper, he is lazy so hasnt even bothered to look.
I have been searching online and I am confused by it all!!
I guess it would be good if we could phone sky and say we can get x x x x from BT for £x or thinking about Freeview so want to cancel and hope they give us a discount. Is this how it works?
Are there any better deals out there?
Any advice is great thanks!!

Don't haggle - cancel!
I tried the negotiating route and the best deal SKY were prepared to do was a 20% discount for 9 months.
I complained that it was not fair because the forums were littered with stories of existing SKY subscribers who had received discounts of 50% or 75%. The SKY rep assured me that those deals did not exist!
Therefore I called SKY back and cancelled my subscription. 48 hours later I received a call back from SKY to discuss the reasons I was leaving and to see if they could persuade me to stay.
I was then offered a 50% discount to stay with SKY which I accepted, an annual saving of £300+.
When SKY call you to discuss the reasons you are leaving you need to stick to your story that the motivation is financial and I also mentioned that we were giving Netflix a trial and were also looking forward to free BT Sport.0 -
I'm currently a Sky broadband/talk/line rental subscriber but not TV. Today I had a telephone call from Sky to "see how my broadband is going and if I'm happy with it". Knowing too well they probably couldn't give two squeezes of a monkey's left one if I'm enjoying the delights of streaming BBC iPlayer in HD, I quickly realised it's going to be a sales pitch to sign up to their TV service.
I'm guessing they're getting a bit concerned over the free BT Sports offering and perhaps they feel they've dropped a bit of a clanger with the £2.3 billion for Premiership Football rights.
The salesman on the blower said I'm a 'valued' customer and has a special great offer for me. Personally I think it's more to do with the fact my broadband/line rental 12 month contact ends next month and they want to retain me. OK, lets assume he genuine and that I am actually valued, his offer to me was 12 months half price Sky Entertainment Extra+ ,Sports in HD and Sky Go Extra for £31.50 a month on top of my current Sky line rental/calls and broadband price.
The way I look at it, the future of TV is streaming and Sky really need to up their game in my view. The idea of having an ugly satellite dish rusting away on the front of my property, along the obligatory unsightly wires, a TV picture that will no doubt pixelate in poor weather and a set-top box that will probably crash and need resetting regularly, doesn't exactly sell this 'deal' to me.
In all honestly, I feel even at £31.50 this is still too expensive, especially when you consider the TV service is full of adverts, most of the channels aren't exactly brilliant anyway and sport will be free from BT.
Quite frankly, I'm not really bothered about subscription TV, but I would consider if it was value for money. What I'm asking is, what is the best deal I can realistically aim for? Personally I was thinking of the above £31.50 deal to also include multi-room and Sky Movies.0 -

There is no way they'll throw in Multi-room and Sky Movies for free, but you may be able to negotiate a deal for all these services if you ring and ask.0 -
I currently have sky broadband and line rental, they've rung me today and offered sky tv, installation, sky+ hd box and sky go for £8.25 on top of what I'm already paying.
I said I'd think about it and they are calling back.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
I rung up today, we currently pay £48 a month for broadband, line rental and tv - the 2nd best package but no sports or movies.
We have an old box though so no HD.
I said to them that Im paying for a subscription that includes 8 hd channels but I have no HD box to watch them though.
The guy said the box was £199 but if I agreed to upgrade the tv packaging to the best one (still without sports & movies but more channels) then he would give it to me for free - but that would cost another £5 per month.
So I said Im not really looking to pay more, but I do want a new hd box (and not pay for it)
So then I said well Virgin can give me a similar package which works out at about £180 cheaper over 18 months.
So then hes given me a combination of two offers, which saves me £80 over the 18 months, so £100 more than virgin, but I get the free HD box which is what I originally rang up for & saved some money.
Plus I have no intention of going to virgin.
I guess if I had said ok Ill cancel, and theyd put me though to that dept, I could have saved more, but Im not willing to risk it as I want to stay with Sky.
plus in 12 months once the new contract expires, I can always downgrade the channels and save more money.0 -
I've been with sky for about 18 months. Got the entertainment extra package, HD and multiroom at £47 a month. No broadband or phone as sky have not yet got into my exchange.
Anyway. I phoned up on the 13th may hoping to get a discount. I said it was too expensive and asked to cancel. They put me through to the cancellations dept who promptly cancelled me with no attempt whatsoever to haggle.
My account shuts off on 13th june and no-one from sky has phoned me or made any attempt to keep me. I did get one email saying if I wanted to stay then just give them a call and they would reinstate my service at the bargain price of £47 a month.
Ho hum!0 -

Stick it out and let it cancel if you can go without it for a few weeks. Quite often you will start getting mailings from Sky to tempt you back with 25% to 50% off packages.0 -

Unfortunately the offer is account specific and does not come with a code0
