Haggling with SKY

Its better to have more customers at a cheaper price than less customers at a more expensive price.
Not if those cheaper price customers make much less profit.
For example, 100,000 customers each making £10 profit for Sky at a lower price, or 75,000 customers each making Sky £20 profit.
Sky is a business like any other, they exist to make as much money as possible!0 -

Why? Airlines and hotels separate their customer base, some pay full price others a discount through places like bucket shops, I think they call it market segmentation.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Sky's business model is entirely different to airlines and hotels which have planes and rooms to fill and which carry costs regardless of whether they are filled. Why? Airlines and hotels separate their customer base, some pay full price others a discount through places like bucket shops, I think they call it market segmentation.
Basically, Sky don't want or need customers who are no longer profitable. They'll certainly offer incentives to formerly profitable customers in the form of (short term) discounts, but they won't countenance repeated requests for such discounts.0 -
To update my opening post.....
We were paying £74.50 per month which was phone£19.50 , unlimited broadband £7.50, sky+, entertainment extra and sky sports package £47.50.
Have been a sky customer for 5 years.
We phone up 3 weeks ago and cancelled everything.
Today got a call from sky.........I accepted free tv - entertainment extra and sky sports package for free for 6 months, no contract, so our tv has been re-activated - it was due to all get cut off in around 7 days time.
So I asked about a discount on our phone and broadband and said he couldnt do that and if we wanted to re-activate the phone and broadband then we had to phone 150 to do that. Does that mean we can still haggle a bit on the phone/broadband?
So, £74.50 per month down to £27 per month for 6 months0 -

You only have to say 'We're thinking of going with BT' and they'll throw money at you. :beer:0 -
Currently on phone cancelling sky package, I have full 'bells and whistles' package (this is what they called it on phone now) at 50% off until end of June. I have been told they can offer no discount off tv, only discount off line rental and there is a problem with cancelling contract due to multiroom taken out in Dec. She said I will be charged early cancellation fees for this. Hope I have done right thing in telling them to cancel, girl on phone is hopeless, not making a lot of sense - lots of giggling from her and being asked to hold every few minutes - perhaps I am interupting something.
My broadband discount runs until July and I receive no discount off phone line. Have said I will cancel these in a couple of weeks when 30 days notice is due.
Once I have cancelled if they don't come back with offer will I be able to receive freeview through the sky equpiment.
Cut off now after being asked to hold.
Rang back and now starting all over with someone new. Am now being contacted by them Monday evening.0 -
Freeview is the terrestrial service - so the Sky box will not do that.
However, it will still receive a good variety of channels. Take the card out now and use the channel up button to see which.
However, leave the card in after cancellation so that 101 and 103 are regionalised to your location.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I have sky tv package (no movies or sports), unlimited broadband, telephone & multi room inc hd box for £51 per month. I managed to get free multiroom for 12mths & free 2nd box and free internet for 12 months.
Not sure if I will do better than that when these things expire0 -
Well we managed to get our contract cancelled early with Virgin Media yesterday(after 3.5 months with no charges!:)) and decided to go back to Sky.
I managed to haggle and eventually got:
Full TV package with movies, sports for £45.37 which is 25% off.
Free HD channels for 12 months.
Free unlimited broadband for 12 months.
Phone for just the line rental for £14.50.
Free HD box and installation.
They didnt want to give us a new box and installation as we last had Sky in February but i talked the sales advisor into getting his manager to authorise it and after 3 attempts they did! Woooo!
Just glad to get away from Virgin Media, just couldnt get used to the TV and how different it and inferior it is to Sky and also rubbish internet speeds and rip off billing methods.0
