So we did go ahead and cancel over the phone, we are set to be cut-off on the 20th June - 9 days time.........

No calls or anything at all from sky so far!!

    We will wait.....

So if we get beyond the 20th, they will cut us off and.....?? If we want to get put back on to sky they will charge us for re-installation etc or is it just a matter of switching us back on without any charge?

If your receiving equipment remains in good order it should be no problem or cost to re-connect.
  • Rang Sky earlier and reduced our bill of £50 for TV, Unlimited broadband and line rental/calls to £33. Been with them for 2 and half years now, 1st year we paid £28 (friends and family deal), 2nd was £32 (rang to cancel, said I couldn't afford the hike to £50), paid £50 since Feb (didn't get round to ringing until now). Now paying £33 for the next 12 months, considering line rental alone is approx £14.50, not bad at all! Definitely worth ringing, I would recommend researching other providers deals and having it all to hand for when they try to persuade you that Sky 'is the best'. Good luck!

I've been with sky for about 18 months. Got the entertainment extra package, HD and multiroom at £47 a month.

Anyway. I phoned up on the 13th may hoping to get a discount. I said it was too expensive and asked to cancel. They put me through to the cancellations dept who promptly cancelled me with no attempt whatsoever to haggle.

My account shuts off on 13th june and no-one from sky has phoned me or made any attempt to keep me. I did get one email saying if I wanted to stay then just give them a call and they would reinstate my service at the bargain price of £47 a month.

    Ho hum!

Same here. I had the friends and family 50% discount thing for 12 months. I had Entertainment extra, movie channels, HD and multiroom for £31 odd a month.

It was due to go up to £62ish a month from this month, so I rang up to cancel. Maybe I did the wrong thing saying from the start if they could do the £31 for another 12 months, I would stay.

They offered me nothing so I've cancelled too. No follow up calls or mailings yet.

Sky do seem to be more interested in offering those in cabled areas/Sky broadband areas decent deals than those who do not. It's to be expected really.
  • Hi all,

Just thought you might like to know about my experience with Sky.

I'm about to move into a new, rented, house. I need phone, broadband and have had Sky before, so thought I'd look into it.

The only B/band providers at my new place were BT, Plusnet or Sky. Thought about BT vision, but they couldn't guarantee Freeview HD, so called Sky and told them I wanted everything for £50.

To cut a long story short, I have now signed up for the whole caboodle: Phone Line Rental with unlimited calls, including international, Broadband Sky Connect (with 40GB download max per month) and the Full Sky package (inc. HD, Sports, Movies, etc) for just under £59 per month. They offered me everything except movies for £55 (I was going to do Lovefilm), but then when Movies was only £4 more, I went for that instead.

Didn't really have to haggle: they wanted to do a deal. Had to call them three times (my fault, not theirs), and on the third call, when I was ready to buy, the saleslady said "I don't know how you got this: you've got line rental and TV for half price: we're only supposed to do one of them". However, after speaking to a manager, it went through.

Full price of this package? £100+ per month.

I don't mind paying for Sky: and this seems like the right price (BT line rental / Bband alone would have been £20): now I guess I'll see how easy the install / customer service is if I have a problem....

It's got next to nothing to do with geographical location I'm afraid. Sky will often provide discounts to customers if there is a likelihood it will encourage them to stay. However, if people already on discounts which are about to expire call to cancel then Sky have no incentive to keep them as they are no longer that profitable in the first place.

Having said that, I do agree that people in areas where other providers are available have a far better chance of haggling successfully because they can quote deals available from competitors.

Exactly how long will this offer last, I wonder? Such deals are usually only for six months and I'd be checking the terms prior to installation (if you haven't done so already) otherwise you could end up paying £100+ a month for the remainder of your minimum term.

A good point: I specifically asked: "Is this what I will pay per month for the whole 12-month contract?" She said yes.

However, I will still check the terms...

    Thanks,

    N.

I automatically assumed that Sky would rather have someone paying £30 a month for 12 months again rather than £0.

Its better to have more customers at a cheaper price than less customers at a more expensive price.

But there we go. Freeview for me from now on
