Haggling with SKY

First time I downgraded I was offered discounts there and then. When they were up and I called to downgrade again I was offered nothing so went ahead and cancelled.
Couple of weeks later the offers started coming through. Currently got Movies & Sport for £10 a month for 6 months with no ongoing commitment and Got HD on £2.50 a month for 9 months.
If you're prepared to do without for a couple of weeks they definitely come back to you with offers....0 -

As you never cancelled your subscription, no mailing or 'phone calls are likely I'm afraid. The Retentions team are tasked with keeping customers, not simply offering upgrades.
Been checking mysky over the last 4 months and it only ever has a one off £5 credit if adding full price sports on offer. I thought people who downgraded were also receiving upgrade offers within about a month or so. Mum did downgrade from £63 to £26 so it was quite significant, but like you say, maybe the only way to get an offer would be for her to cancel completely.
I tell her to try ringing and asking if she wants to, but she's not keen on haggling unfortunately!0 -

My mum wasn't offered anything when downgrading, they asked why she wanted to and explained it was because she couldn't afford it anymore, but that was it. I hoped she'd be offered a discount on sports at least, as I know she'd like to see the Ashes, and since it was 4 months until they started, I thought that would be plenty of time to get an offer, as most posts I'd read, like yours, had said within a few weeks, a month tops. The offers you've got sound great! I didn't even realise you could have more than 1 at once, all yours would be perfect, although Mum would be happy with just the sports for £10! Seems a bit unfair my mum's had no offers in 4 months after paying full price for over 10 years.0 -

The best offers have been for people who have cancelled completely. If she doesn't want to do this then she either needs to haggle or accept that she will probably need to pay full price for it.
It's unlikely that Sky will offer her anything without any work from her side.0 -
I told Sky I wanted to cancel, they offered me sports and movies free for 3 months. A lot of my friends have also received similar deals. From my understanding Sky will go out of their way to keep a customer unlike Virgin.0

Not true, I've not paid full price for years but then I've been a customer with them for 13+ years, since the Nynex daysThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Because its about haggling and most media companies in competition with each other have retentions departments that operate the same way.Moneyineptitude wrote: »I have to ask what this has to do with haggling with Sky?
Now can I ask you why your so hostile with everyone and why you think you are right about everything, kinda like an Oracle? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
