Might hit the book shop while I'm there (big mistake), so can anyone recommend a good read - nothing sad though
Hi - at the moment I'm reading my way through Anne Tyler (she wrote The Accidental Tourist) and her books are really good; she really makes you feel part of the family she is writing about and her observations of people are brilliant. My favourite book of all time is Forever Amber by Kathleen Winsor which is set in the time of the great plague and the great fire of London. Sounds miserable but it is one of those books you just can't put down - she's another writer who makes you feel part of the book. Likewise, Jean Auel's series which starts with Clan of the Cave Bear which begins in the days of the cavemen. Brilliant! I also loved Wild Swans by Jung Chang which is sad in parts but is a fascinating history of China in the last fifty years. For a really good laugh, try A Year in the Merde (merde is French for !!!!!!!) by Stephen Clarke - really hysterical! Anyway, hope you find something you like - you can't beat a good book!

You have made me smile - my lovely Mum who we lost 4 years ago, wouldn't let me read Forever Amber as it was too rudebut compared to books now, it was pretty tame
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Good Morning All
Feeling a little sore this morning. I jumped that fast when Liverpool scored last night. Its put my muscle into spasm again, its not in the usual place either. Its in the middle on the right hand side. It even hurts to breathe.
Thankyou for the thoughts ref DS hamster. I think with the rabbit and cat dyin over recent months, its made him aware that pets dont live forever.
Woke up to lovely sunshine early this morning, but gradually its gone dull and we had a showering of rain.
Jett - good luck with the tandem skydive, I did a parachute jump many yrs ago in the army, and to sydive is something I would like to do. We arranged to do one at my old work place about 6yrs ago, but the chap who organised it had a motorbike accident and broke his leg, so it got cancelled.
Amie - hope the sunburn cools down for you. I fell asleep last yr in the garden, I was as red as a beetroot.
Kyle - hope th epain eases for you today.
Happy 50th Birthday to Charlie's mum - have a great day!
Dlb - great news ref your friend and her bank charges. i read in the paper yesterday about a woman who took a bank to court for harrassment!
Right best be off and do the school run
Have a great day all

My mum still hates the fact that I like reading Fay Weldon (another one I should have mentioned in my last post) because she thinks she's too radical! She can't see how the teenager who loved the classics can enjoy reading such books but it's good to like a varied selection, I think.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

Miolere..
There was an old lady
Who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children
She didn't know what to do. lol.
The rest doesn't apply :-) I don't need to whip them all soundly and send them to bed :-)
I do feel I don't know what to do sometimes though. Especially as the four youngest are girls from 16-nearly 10, then there's a brother, then there is a 19yr old girl, so you can imagine the hormones flying, not forgetting mine :-)
Generally though. It's great being "big" I wouldn't have it any other way now. Looking back I have lot's of lovely memories :-) I must admit though. I never planned such a large family, but I've no regrets.0 -
Morning!
Not got time to read the thread till later but wanted to pop in and say good morning before I dash off to work!
I lost another pound at Slimming World so thats 5lbs in 3 weeks, slow but steady!:j
Have a lovely day all, catch up later hopefully!
take carexxxDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Hello all.
Have been going through yesterdays thread to catch up:-
Mrs_mix – ds1 ankle sound painful, I hope he gets better soon. Hopefully today will be quieter on the homefront.
Csarina – I wish we would have as good a residents meeting as you do. Our neighbours just want to spend the time throwing insults at one another! Nothing ever seems to get resolved!
Trigger2 – sounds like your tow are going to keep the ENT department really busy over the next couple of weeks. How could Dd manage to burst her eardrum? Its so sad about your granny. However, it sounds like the move to a home would be in her best interests. At least there would be someone on hand 24/7 to help keep her safe. (And don’t worry about ‘rambling on’. We’re all here to help one-another!)
Welcome back Bargain Rzl!! You have been missed. Isnt sellotape wonderful! If only they made super super industrial strength, then I could have an invisible bra!
Queenie – good to hear about the erections going on in your house. (fnar fnar). Odd about your friend in need though. Why would she turn down all the help you are offering her? I would suggest you pass on the information about anything else, and then leave it up to her to get in contact and arrange pickup/delivery. That way the ball is in her court, and she can accept/refuse direct.
p.s – glad you enjoyed your pizza - - I love ‘em! If only I would get round to making them myself!!
AussieLass – glad you have a great visit with Twink & Kyle. Hope you all swopped OS tips. (Kyle I hope your mouth is getting better?? Keep rinsing with tepid salt water!). I truly believe in Nessie – its nice to think we mere mortals don’t know everything about this universe yet (would be boring if we did)
Meanmarie – have you managed to get online today? If so, have fun in Sardinia (is that where the sardines come from?). Don’t forget to bring back the sunny weather – fed up of grey skies and rain!working hard at this thing called life0 -
And now for the posts from today:-
Jet77 – congratulations on being the first post for today!! Im not surprised Benson thought you were mad – 4.20 is definitely not a respectable time for a toilet break! (however, I bet he wouldn’t have minded an early breakfast!!)
About the tandem skydive – you’re braver than me gunga-din. I prefer to stay stuck to terra firma! (however, if you PM me, I wouldn’t mind sponsoring you)
Amie399 – can I come round for tea please? I love jacket spuds, and I could really fancy a large salad. Havent got a garden to be able to grow anything.
Mioliere – glad you slept better lastnight. You need to catch up on a few unsettled nights – especially as you want to be fully recharged for France! (and all that retail therapy!) Don’t worry about the new automatic car – it can be quite fun once you get used to not using your left foot!!
I envy your get-away in France – sound idyllic! AND you’ve got an Italian wedding to go to! If I promise not to eat too much, can I come with you?? PLEEEEASE???
N9eav – how was the fishing? Did you catch anything? I live about 10 miles from Newquay, but have never gone fishing. I hope you had a lovely time. What time did you go to Tesco’s to get those bargains? I never seem to get to the store at the right time.
Scuzz - sorry to hear you’re still not sleeping well. Don’t worry about the meeting with the boss. Perhaps he’s noticed you’re under the weather and wants to offer some help?? I hope this is the case anyway. I also hope the bf situation is a lot better now.
Catowen – Ive planned a trip ‘up-country’ and thanks to Jet77 I was able to book a train ticket from Truro to Plymouth for £1. Jet suggested I try https://www.megatrain.com. Unfortunately, I can only either got to Plymouth or Penzance from Truro, but at least I managed to save over £20 on the overall cost of a return trip to Birmingham. I did PM Jet to give my thanks – but will say thankyou again on here.
Jockettuk – Oohhhh – the Dominican Republic! Now that’s a place I would really love to visit! You must tell us all about it on your return!! Good luck on hitting the 3 stone + target. Im sure you will be able to do it.
Charlies_ mum - - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! You need to celebrate in style so retail therapy is the way to go today!
Dlb – great news about your friend getting her charges back! Lets hope the bank don’t take too long to send her the cheque (though why they cant just deposit the money into the bank account I don’t know. Imagine all the trees it would save!!)
Herbaholic – it’s a shame about your DH being on call. Hopefully you will be able to go to the garden centre soon, and it wont be so busy as on a bank holiday weekend! Im sorry I cant help you with a custard tart recipe – have only just started this cooking lark myself – haven’t got round to baking desserts yet. (did you know that desserts is stressed backwards?)
Emmy – good luck at the dentist. I will be thinking of you.
Newster – It looks like you’ll be glad to have 21yrold back in the fold again. However, you make sure he keeps doing his chores, Im sure he’s no stranger to a washing machine by now.
Taplady – well done on losing another pound! And you’re doing it sensibly. I bet you’re nearly ready to try on that ‘itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny, yellow polka-dot bikini …..’
Sorry if I've missed anyone. Here's wishing you all a wonderful day. Double-double-chocolate-chip-hugs all round.

Happy birthday charlies mum! Hope you have a great day.
Kyle - I had my gums cut and stitched last year and although a bit uncomfortable, it certainly doesn't seem to be as painful as what you're going through. I'd give the surgery a call
Scuzz - I've been following your posts. I really feel for you - you don't seem to know if you're coming and going. Remember it's you that's important.
Newster - envy you your large family. I'm one of five and had things been different I'd like to have had a big family too (maybe not as big as that!). Love love love my two daughters though
Mioliere - and envy your French retreat. 5 weeks until we go to our little gite in the south of France (well, it is only ours for that week!)
jett - you're so brave! good luck!
Penny - enjoy your camping!
Well done to your friend, Donna! I know the feeling. Getting my bank charges was the turning point for me - I was yelling too!
So glad it's nearly the weekend! I'm running out of energy these days and desperate for some me time. All the problems with the house are really getting to me. There are loss adjusters coming from the insurance company tomorrow - and although I know most of the problem isn't covered by insurance (maybe none of it) then anything will help. the quotes I've had are around £12k and I'm just not sure that I'll be able to get the finance because of my history. But doing nothing isn't getting me anyway so I'll call the mortgage company tomorrow as a first step while I'm waiting in for the loss adjusters.
Hope everyone has a great day - add my hugs on too!

Oh I love that series!!! If only she would get the 6th and final one out *insert frustrated finger tapping smilie* My (deceased) FIL and I would talk for hours about The Earth Children series. Did you see the film of Clan of Cave Bear with Darryl Hannah? Must say it didn't do the book justice at all, but it was on recently and the lads and I watched it. My 12yo is an avid reader and I thought it might tempt him into Auel's world - it didn't
Thanks for listing those other suggestions, I'm going to put those on my reading wish list :T
Crazychik - ouchie!!!! Hope you find some relief (deep heat?) because that sounds nasty!
charlies mum - woohoo Happy Five O!! :T :T Enjoy your shopping
Essex - aww, bet you'll be baking like a beaver next week
Ladygrim - I know! Couldn't understand her attitudeI shall take your's and meanmaries advice I think
As for the meat feast, I'm working on a recipe to mimic those scrummy pork balls and then I'll be well away on making an-almost-PizzaHut-homemade version :rotfl:
taplady - Very well done you!!! :T :T :T
Well all the furniture is almost up (he's been here since 7am) and now I know why I really should have used a tape measure before ordering
:rotfl: I'm going to be 'summoned' any time now to do the "Dances With Wardrobe" around the room to get it all how I'd like it. I'm pretty sure it will all fit how I imagined it and it's only his man's eye being overly critical.
Oops, the call has cometh ... catch you later:wave:
