Debt Visit

Options
Hello,

I am worried, we had a doorstep knock from a Regional Loss Prevention Manager from shop direct today, I immediately denied I was the person they were looking for as I panicked. The guy said unless I told them where this person was or passed him my landlord details by the end of the day he would have to call the police to get the come out and get the landlords details?....

Has anyone else had this sort of visit? And any advice.

Thanks

  • don't say a thing, send them a denial of access letter, they are just bullying you, you don't even have to open the door to them, just open a window and tell them to !!!!!! off and you only respond by mail and threatening you on the doorstep, you'll be calling the police and recording everything next time

They have absolutely no rights at all, do not let them in, and tell them you will note down everything they say and report them to the appropriate authorities for bullying and harassment.

Doesnt matter who they work for, they have no more legal power than the milkman or the postman.
They can knock and ask and must leave when told to do so, just like anyone else.
As said above, send them a letter removing their conditional right of access under english common law, then the cant come knocking again.
(Im sure there is a sticky or a link somewhere)

They also cant get the police to get your landlord details either, infact, if the police ever did turn up ask them to remove the person from your doorstep

Does not matter who they are from. They have no rights at all, and as for them calling the police....

  • Yes thank you all, still very intimidating makes me not want to ever open the door or move. Yes he said the police can tell him if I'm the person he is looking for or pass him the landlords information.

    Hes talking Twaddle

Debt is a cival matter, if the police were in attendance it would be for nothing more than to keep the peace.
He has just as much right to know who you are then I do or anyone else on here.
If he turns up again then send him on his way.

I would asvise speaking with Shop Direct and making arrangements with them that way he wont need to return.

Make a formal complaint to Shop Direct, remove their common law right to visit and unless they apologise profusely, report them to the OFT (whatever has taken over from the OFT) for misrepresenting their powers.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • I've just had someone knock at my door who was doing a survey about watching TV. I politely declined and he left.

Any debt collector has as much right of access to my property as that man doing a survey had, ie as much as I was prepared to allow.

As for calling the police - I think he would be the one arrested if he did, for trying to wasting police time.
