Have you thought about visiting the docs?
Do you take exercise? That's proven to help in other areas of life.

Sorry HBS, I don't understand. Why would I visit the doctors?
I don't exercise and I should do for numerous reasons. It is something else about my life I'm looking to improve
Thanks

When I studied psychology (among other -ology's) we discussed and focused on NLP for a time. One assignment was to write a fair assessment of NLP regarding its positive and negatives. It was one of the toughest assigments we faced. There was no independent, verified scientific or psychological research that did not dismiss it as quackery; all the evidence in support of NLP came from those who practiced it, profited from it and/or were in some ways biased towards it.
Of course, it turned out that the purpose of the assignment was to examine just how much research and effort we were willing to put into our dissertations as you could spend months researching credible sources and not find much good to be said for NLP. It has been discredited for decades in psychological circles.0 -
Nope, you're entitled to your opinion. I was just interested to understand what your experience of it was.
Could I ask why specifically you view it as nonsense? What are your reasons?
Gwen
I can confirm it is absolute b0ll0cks as has been previously noted.
I used to be in business with a guy who had various NLP 'qualifications' and went on about it constantly. Eventually he persuaded me to start another NLP company with him and take some of the training - mistake !!
We ended our partnership shortly after that as I just could not continue to be in business with such a charlatan.
All the people I met who were in to it just seemed to be insincere. All of the courses just seemed designed to lure you into the next course so they could get more money out of it.
Really when you look closely there is nothing you can't figure out for yourself but possibly might not have the courage of your convictions to follow through.
I would suggest a good talk with a close confidant - buy them dinner, it would be money much better spent.0 -
I have one friend who's into NLP. He's the most !!!!ed up, miserable mess imaginable. It's certainly not doing him any good...."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I'm trying to improve myself a bit at the moment.
Why? You is what you is. The sooner you realise this and accept yourself the happier you'll be. Got to work with your personality and talents (and everyone has them), not try to change yourself. Pointless innit."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I don't think so.
If you're naturally very shy and it affects your social life, you can learn to be more outgoing.
If you're usually a "foot in mouth" person and unintentionally upset people, you can learn to think first and keep your friends.
And so on.....0 -

I'll have to disagree with you on that one. I do work with my personality and talents, but I see nothing wrong with wanting to improve the areas where I'm weaker.
I look to improve things in my home, at work etc, etc, why not me?
To be totally honest, I think the world might be a better place if we looked at ourselves now and then and how we could improve.Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -

Or if you are one of those thin-skinned, overly sensitive people you can learn to toughen up a bit rather than expect everyone else to walk on eggshells around you. (Bit of an old bugbear there)
