i have waited 18 months and nothing has come to light....am i supposed to just leave it to sort itself out, i wouldn't be a good parent if i didn't try to help if it is my daughter either sleep eating or bingeing.

op go ahead and do it this evening and let us know the details tomorrow we may be in better position then to offer advise on how to help resolve the problem or issue. If there is one ? If you do find yourself on camera being the culprit I think you might have egg on your face having to admit it to family !!! :) Only Joking op

What, after the OP waiting 18 months? Its highly unlikely something like that is going to happen if it hasn't already. If it was my family and there was someone eating food constantly late at night and not admitting to it or showing signs of gaining weight it would concern me enough to want to take action, rather than sit around and hope it sorts its self out. I would be worried about the potential medical conditions (not just eating disorders).

But WHY do they feel unable to discuss it? Why are they lying? Based on the language in these posts, the fact that a camera is being considered and the family know it is coming etc, I have doubts that this has been approached in the most sensitive manner. Talk of lying, admitting, combatting etc. No talk of understanding, supporting etc.

No, I think a good parent has to tackle it, but also to be honest about the situation and difficulties they may face. Your partner might be better to 'lead' the situation here, considering you have unresolved issues you don't feel 'could' be an element of why this is happening (be it sleep eating, night binging, or just taking without permission)

my husband would be the last person ideal to deal with this in respects to my daughter....this is why i think its a sleep eating issue rather than an eating disorder(if it is her), she comes to me about EVERYTHING and i mean everything, she has no boundaries with the questions she comes out with

I really need to give up on this one. OP whatever you decide let us know how you get on.

I would just ask the following though:

    1. If you hide the camera, what will you do with the information you get from it?

    2. If you decide not to hide the camera, how will you know if there is an eating disorder? I'd be about 99% certain they won't eat 'on camera' and will find other ways to eat instead.
