I would put it up without hiding it for a night or two. If someone is sleepwalking (and eating), they will come down and eat as usual.

If someone is lying about taking the food at night, they won't do it if they know the camera is there and no food will be taken. That's the cue to ask everyone again and watch who is getting twitchy.

If no-one is forthcoming, then I'd hide the camera.

    Ooh excellent idea.

Please, before you do anything, give the BEAT helpline a ring and talk through everything with them to see what they think. They're the experts, they may have ways to help that we on here have absolutely no idea about.

This is the number for the over 18s helpline: 0845 634 1414

A good idea, however the OP doesnt know this has anything to do with an eating disorder yet tho.

No, but BEAT may have heard this kind of story many times before and might have advice about better ways to bring things out in the open rather than 'catching in the act' with a hidden camera.

How would you broach it once you have the footage though? Not necessarily a question for you, but for the OP and perhaps others could make suggestions? Although so far the OP hasn't answered this question so far...

If the person is adamant they won't admit to a problem, I can't think of too many ways of addressing the problem without admitting you've secretly filmed them.

If it is an eating disorder, it is, at the end of the day, a mental health problem that needs to be dealt with very sensitively. To feel under suspicion, under pressure, spied on etc will not help. I second Person-one's suggestion, please call Beat.

Get everyone seated in lounge and play it back so you can all be present to see who it is. After all they are family so it wont be a surprise as they would want to help out. if it is an eating disorder the family would soon get to know anyway so sooner rather than later

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200

Very sensitively and after taking some advice.

If someone has been consciously eating and denying it, they have a problem, are aware of it and somewhat ashamed.

That could be incredibly humiliating, and I don't think 'calling out' and American style whole family interventions are actually the best way to deal with most mental health/addiction issues.
