I should stop reading this thread.

I have nothing else to do as I sit and wait for a grocery delivery and now I feel starved...

How is it gonna 'come out in the wash' when noone will admit to taking the food and it happens at night when everyone is in bed??

I don't mean to talk for the OP but eating disorders and issue with food are very personal. Sure, OP may have discussed it in the past but maybe they dont want to today. This question has already been asked in the thread, if the OP felt it was relevant or wanted to discuss it they would, surely.

I can think of numerous situations...someone else wakes up and goes into the kitchen...someone wakes up whilst sleep eating and realises what they've been doing...someone realises they have a problem with food and feels comfortable enough to talk about it...

i would certainly do what op is proposing to do, you have given everyone ample chances to confess so yes get the camera installed catch the thief and then have it out with them. it is all down to lying. however you see it. there isnt a problem with the taking of the food if they are hungry and you have an open house policy of letting them eat when they want but to take it and lie is the problem. Install the camera op please and let us know the culprit i am curious now as to whether your suspicisions are true. !

i can totally see where you are coming from they are obviously grown adults so to lie is wrong i could understand if you were talking about a 6 year old child but to blatently lie to your mother is wrong.

Good luck op hope you catch them at it.:T

Why would someone lie though?? Why would someone eat food late at night?? There are reasons for people's behaviour.

The likelihood is that it's one of the following:
    1. Sleep eating
    2. An eating disorder

Out of the two scenarios, an eating disorder would be the most difficult to deal with. If it is an eating disorder, I fear you will do more harm than good whether the camera is hidden or not...lack of trust, increased sense of shame etc...

'Your family know it's coming'...it sounds like an awful situation...

I'm banging my head against a brick wall here...

yes then the mother needs to know the reason if they wont confide in her or admit it in private or out in the open what else is she expected to do leave for another 18 years !! She is not worried about the food going missing as such but the person not owning up. As she has said she has given them every opportunity to speak to her, they could even write a note if the case must be.

She cant help or assist if she doesnt know there is a problem

What, after the OP waiting 18 months? Its highly unlikely something like that is going to happen if it hasn't already. If it was my family and there was someone eating food constantly late at night and not admitting to it or showing signs of gaining weight it would concern me enough to want to take action, rather than sit around and hope it sorts its self out. I would be worried about the potential medical conditions (not just eating disorders).

i don't see what my eating problems has to do with this tho....and my food allergies/intolerances led to my eating disorder (actually its not a disorder as assessed by an eating disorder clinic, i just have "issues")

You 'issues' could have an awful lot to do with this, and that you don't see that heightens the 'risk' IMO. Frequently the children of people with food issues develop them themselves. Please tread carefully in handling this, people with existing issues are often ill places to deal with others, for the sake of both parties.

Fwiw, we freeze bread, but also would not want food to go missing. It's simply that I think you need to be careful in what you do and say next. I also think that bearing in mind you admit a disorder and this reads as if a control situation might or could or even has developed your whole family might be better served if your husband deals with this, not you.

Surely the other people in the house are intrigued to find out who it is, if the daughter is doing it in her sleep it's not like she's doing it on purpose. Measures then can be taken to make sure she doesn't carry on doing it in her sleep. If it's someone doing it on purpose they should just admit to it and that would be the end of it.

I don't see the problem with a camera to see who it is who's doing it.

OP I hope you find out who it is.
