Being bullied is horrible. Kids can be so cruel. We don't know enough about this to judge but I know how damaging bulling can be. A ten year old begging us to let her die, how do you think that feels. Teachers just seeing her as needing to toughen up. Can you imagine an adult being surround by a dozen people hit, spat at, called names, stung with nettles and someone saying, "Oh you need to toughen up." Things being stolen on a daily basis and then her getting told off for not having a pen, book or whatever. Believe me a BB gun isn't right but neither is bullying, real bullying is life threatening.

Just to be clear, in the light of my previous post, I regard what you describe here as bullying, and it needs dealing with.

Kids can be nasty, and horseplay is part of growing up (as is learning to deal with hostility and negative comments), but to confuse horseplay with the kind of nastiness you describe here is to diminish what your child suffered, and makes it harder to tackle it.

 I don't understand :o What did you decide?
As per my edit which I did after it occured to me that someone wouldn't have the faintest idea what I was blathering about in the post you quoted. Sorry but didn't type it out again.

    Cheers.

Also, sorry OP. but in my experience children that young who come out with racist/prejudiced comments have usually learned it at home. Your use of the phrase 'race card' makes me wonder if perhaps you need to examine your own attitudes to racism and the way its discussed in your family.

I started this thread looking for perspective and proportion. I have got it from many posters who have been of great assistance and for that I thank you. I even thank the extremists too for some reasan because it has highlighted the route that I have decided to take is absolutely the correct one for both of them.

Time to close this thread methinks.

    Cheers

Edit: and that would be as described in Post 49, moderated by Post 50 and confirmed in Post 51.

    Confirmed what ?

And please explain why after the lad pulled out the gun (while only 20 feet away your daughter and her friends) , they chose to provoke him even more by calling him a terrorist and just didn't turn and run.

What you may find keystone is that whilst your daughter does not have previous history, those who dared her to pinch this guy's scooter have a long history of abusing the lad in various ways.

So you daughter may not be intentionally bullying but she may have been used by bullies to their own ends. That is what bullies do; enlist other people to do their dirty work.

"Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee? Hand clean, did not touch him/her at all." Just has persuaded a score of other kids to do various things to upset the same person - bullying by proxy.

Sorry, I'm obviously being thick :o.
I've read the posts referred to in your edit but, I'm afraid, I'm none the wiser.

I have requested the school to facilitate a meeting between myself and the boy's parents to discuss the matter calmly and rationally. I only have one side of the story and want both. The Police will not be involved unless they are uncooperative in dealing with it themselves and only then for the future safety of the boy concerned. It should have been post 53 of course not 51.

How the blue blazes am I supposed to know? I wasn't there. In any event what I said was that the gun was fired when she was 20 feet away. They may only have been 10 feet away when he pulled it. I didn't suggest that because I don't know and I'm not about to indulge in speculation. For all they knew it was a brightly coloured toy (it was orange by the way - one of the hallmark colours of a BB gun). Please don't make things up to try and justify a position.

I'm done with this thread now as I do not see why I need to argue with certain people who are clearly pursuing an agenda or who demonstrate that they are just out and out keyboard warriors neither of which are at all relevant to the thread. They know who they are. ;)

    As do I.

My eldest son had a life of hell at one point. He has learning disabilities, can you imagine how much 'fun' was had with that?

However that doesn't mean I see bullying in every unpleasant kids 'episode'.

Thank you for that. I do understand and already appreciate this possibility. However, I do currently view this, as other posters have pointed out, as a simple case of skylarking thats gone wrong (thats based on what I've been told so far by the way not from a position of wearing rose coloured glasses) rather than a case of systematic bullying. Her feet wouldn't touch the ground if she was involved in that and she has been fully aware now since Primary School. I am open to a change of position though should emergent facts persuade me otherwise.
