Seems the force protecting you compromises of one, overweight, lazy constable who can't be bothered to investigate complaints regarding the use of illegal substances. The sad part is, you seem fine with the fact your local Police force don't/won't act on complaints from members of their constabulary.
I'm glad the force protecting me acted on residents complaints and did their job.
I don’t need “protecting” from individuals sitting in their living rooms smoking a spliff.
I’d much rather the police used their LIMITED resources to protect me from real criminals who commit or plan to commit crimes that actually hurt people.
This is a “common sense prevails” situation if ever I saw one.0 -
Unless they suspect its a dealer the police are very unlikely to do anything about cannabis use in a private residence, and even then the chances of them acting are pretty slight, as the chances of gaining any kind of meaningful conviction are vanishingly small.
A friend of the family is a policeman and they have to fight to get actual criminals any kind of custodial sentence in a modern court of law, they simply dont care about personal cannabis use in the general public, as upsetting as that may be to certain people.0 -

You're pro-cannabis, aren't you?0 -

I wouldn't describe myself as pro or anti. (Although i don't smoke it, if that's what you mean). However, I would describe myself as realistic.0 -
Gordon Hose: "You're pro-cannabis, aren't you?"
Where did you get that from? The OP has several times made the point that you have decided not to get. You have become so obstinately bent on pursuing this line, that you further decide to accuse the OP of something for which the only evidence exists in your own deluded consciousness. Get a grip!
OP. I used to live in a very similar neighbourhood, owning and living in the middle of 3 terraced houses which formed part of an ex-NCB estate. I had a neighbour one side who smoked (tobacco, not weed) and another on the other side who was very old and whose chimney smoked. My home often smelt like a mixture of the old shut down pit and a miner's pub when the pit was still working. I spoke to both sides, diplomatically, and presented the problem.
To the old guy, I paid half his chimney-sweeping bill, solved that. To the other neighbour, I asked him if he could either smoke outside, or pay to have the place sealed. (the floors were, like yours, open to the earth.) I also showed him the inside of a computer I had been given to repair, by a heavy smoker. It was heavily coated in tobacco dust and tar, covering all the inside of the case and components in horrible, brown gunge. "That's your lungs." I told him "And if you smoke outside, your kids will have lungs like that." First he began smoking outside, then he gave up altogether. The secret? - I told him that in front of his wife and teenaged children.
Just as a point of interest, many years later I came across another such computer, just as heavily polluted. That one had overheated because the fans were completely choked. I showed that guy the opened computer and had the same result.
Incidentally, as an ex-soldier, I smoked heavily until 33 years ago. Second best thing I ever did for my health. (Best was marrying the world's best cook!)
EDIT: Gordon, please read my signature. It applies to you more than any other responder here on this topic.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I had a council maisonette once, shared venting with the place next door. The neighbours cooked sheeps heads or something.., smell was totally disgusting and pervasive. I complained to the local housing office, they came round, agreed the smell was atrocious but said they could do nothing. So I'm afraid I doubt you will find the council will take action. Even with the fire hazard problem, it exists in too many houses for them to take this up.0

Get a grip? Seriously! How old are you...? It's the internet, I am free to disagree with who I like. If you don't agree, fine. Don't tell me to "get a grip" because I have a different opinion.
All I did was make the point that it is wrong to assume the Police would do nothing. As this wasn't the case in a similar situation I found myself in.
Anyway, peace. Try and chill out, you'll live longer.0 -

He was saying get a grip as you seem to have a exaggerated view of what the police will and wont do, they haven't got unlimited funding you know!0 -

Hey, I'm chilled fella!
I'm 68 years of age and I fully intend to live forever. My 4 grandchildren call me "The Cool Granddad" (as opposed to the other two, who I guess are uncool)
You are quite right to say that you are entitled to have an opinion, but when others besides myself are agreed that your opinion is not necessarily correct, it is very UNCOOL to continue to argue the point. Your experience with the law, was in another area and probably another constabulary. As I have a good friend who is a serving police officer, I can tell you that in most areas, the smoking of wacky baccy in one's own home, would be disregarded for two reasons. According to my tame DS, those are: 1 - it's in his own home, the material is for 'own use only' and it requires a Warrant to be investigated. 2 - No warrant will be issued, unless there is good and sufficient reason to suspect that the resident concerned is making, storing and selling the drug involved. Apparently too many unsuccessful "Raids" have resulted in raided individuals seeking monetary restitution, resulting in slaps on the wrist for the police and advisory notices issued by CC's.
I do not intend to reply to any further comment you make.
Life's too short, for everyone else....:) :doh:I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
