Neighbour smoking in his own home is affecting me......

:rotfl: This may be a self solving problem.
Today, the whole family rocked up (not just Dad) and, as they echoed around the house, Mum laid into Dad about how many ciggie butts there were, how little work has been done so far and what's he going to do about it?! :rotfl:
I suspect with the way she cracking the whip over him, there won't be as many ciggie breaks. :rotfl:
There are definitely no floor coverings or furnishings so they are a long way from settled in there ATM. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

I had this issue in my old place. Speak to your neighbour, people can be more reasonable than you think. Although I'd strongly advise against asking your neighbour to stop smoking in the house, but make a point that the smoke is coming in to your house and you'd like to work to find a solution.
I said to my neighbour that I had asthma. The neighbour was kind enough to cover up holes and such around the skirting and floor boards, I did the same and it helped with the issue. We’ve had to remove your signature. Surely if they're smoking the king of pop they're breaking the law or have I missed legalisation? Smoking inside is repugnant regardless of home ownership or the affect on neighbours.
I enjoy the smell of tobacco cigarettes but smoking inside is crazy, can't you mention that by doing this they are filling your home with the smell that will need to be cleaned out? I visited the home of a smoker (that smoked inside) and every single piece of furniture, carpets and curtains stank, over time isn't the constant smell going to do the same to your carpet?
If you were flooding your bathroom and causing water to come through their ceiling and damaging their property they would (rightfully) be exceptionally angry, they're doing the same to you (albeit with less visible effects) so asking them to stop is not unreasonable.0 -
I also live in an area where people smoke and I believe deal certain substances, the only people who can deal with this I believe are the police, if you choose to involve them.
Sometimes the neighbours you would like, arent the neighbours you end up getting.0 -
Maybe they are smoking more while they do their DIY, most people do. Also is the place unfurnished at the moment? Fabric etc does absorb smoke.
If all else fails, tell him you nephew is a Policeman who visits regularly and you'd hate for him to get in trouble due to the strange smells..:p
Really? most people smoke more while painting or putting up a shelf. You live and learn eh;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

I think you'll find your definition of 'not unreasonable' is actually spelled 'totally unreasonable'.0 -
Go round and ask them to stop being so selfish...they should share it roundThey deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Could you report them (anonymously) to the Police for smoking drugs? That will take some thinking about as to just how to manage it.
This is the thing - reporting them anonymously and mentioning it to them as coming through into your place are mutually exclusive tactics. You can do one or the other - but not both.
It's not just a question of smelling smoke in your place - you are being turned into a passive smoker of whatever they are smoking (be it legal or illegal) and breathing in those fumes and it is likely to affect you as well at some point and that simply isn't on.
I would tend to the block up all possible entrance points for the smoke coming through into my home and reporting them anonymously for the illegal substances smoking personally.
Good luck with dealing with this - and I must admit the thought had honestly never crossed my mind that smoke fumes could come through between neighbouring terrace houses until your thread (though I'm still living in one myself).0 -
