Could you report them (anonymously) to the Police for smoking drugs?

I would be really surprised if the police took any action tbh. It wouldn’t be worth the effort, time, money or paperwork. They have better things to do that try and prosecute people smoking a spliff in their own home.

Besides even if they did turn up at their flat…..

“We’ve had a report of drugs being used in this property. Can we come in?”
    “Have you got a warrant?.”
    “No”
“Then no, you can’t come in”
    “Ok, bye”

    Back at the station….
“Gaffer, can we use up even more police funds / resources to get a legal warrant to enter and search these premises, as we have had an anonymous tip off that someone is smoking cannabis in their own home?”
    “No chance”
  • In that case - guess its back to the "my best friend is a policeman" tactic and maybe get a friend to hire some suitable police fancy dress to wear when visiting you.:rotfl:

Best of luck to OP on this - because there is no way I could personally calmly handle this situation (at the very least I would be thoroughly upset at having to spend MY money on stopping up gaps in my home against THEIR smoke). Thank goodness I don't have anyone like this as a neighbour...as life would certainly not be "peaceful" whilst they were still there...

TBH even if they stop smoking spliffs, they can continue to smoke in their own home if they want to; it's not illegal. There's nothing you can do about that except take steps to stop up gaps in the fabric of your property, because it's not the neighbour's fault if your place is 'gappy.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

See, I have a different experience. The chav on the ground floor of our block of flats smokes "the 'erb". He right royally annoyed every single person in the block with the stench, the comings and goings of people buying from him and his loud music.

In the end someone reported him (not sure who, someone beat me to it!) and the Police turned up with the big red key and smashed his front door in. On two occasions.

Strangely the noise and smell subsided.

    Thanks for all your replies.

As I said, the Missus seems to have put the fear of God into him. She spent a large portion of yesterday shouting at him, they cracked all the windows and doors yesterday and today he hasn't stopped all morning.

He's had a go with an electric sander and now it sounds like he's walking through the house at the minute looking for stuff to saw. :rotfl:

Still, if he's going to be that noisy, it gives me an excuse to get my sander out......:)
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Yes but from what you have told us, he was dealing drugs, hence why the police broke his door down.

There is a BIG difference between that and smoking it, personally, in your home. The difference being that they would take action against the dealing, but not the smoking.

Also, to get the warrant to force entry and search the place, they would have needed more evidence (usually by conducting survelance) than just an anonymous tip off.

If theres noise from them decorating then that's only a good thing !
Means they are making it nice and are putting an effort into the place and have some self respect.

As for the smoke smell, I'd wait and see in a few weeks when the move in properly.

If it's still an issue, maybe get a builder round (or tradesman) to look at lifting your floor and sealing the gaps (if possible?)

I assumed he was dealing it, I'll never actually know. All I know is a lot of people used to turn up at his flat.

Maybe he had previous? Maybe the OP's next door neighbour has previous convictions for drug use? Maybe others have already complained? Until the Police smash his door in, they won't know. He may well keep his stash there. Who knows.

My point being; don't assume the Police will do nothing.

I KNOW that they wouldn't go to the time / effort / cost of getting a warrant and smashing someones door in, because they were only smoking a bit of weed in their own home, no matter if they had previous convictions and no matter who complained, there would need to be additional / more serious activities involved.

    !!!!!!.

You, and the Police, don't know he's "only smoking a bit of weed" that's the point you seem so intent on missing.
