Link to data and/or report please?

Chocolate and cheese also trigger migraines, does this mean you should get a prescription for other food so you don't feel deprived?

I don't eat much in the way of wheat myself - I prefer rice to pasta and don't eat bread because I'll eat a whole loaf if I start - but it's generally an OK foodstuff. And my IBS has stuck around despite not eating wheat.

"Eat Right 4 Your Type" (written by a naturopath...lol in itself. notice he seems to have dropped the "Dr" in the same way McKeith did) is absolute bunkum. There's no evidence to back it up.

I'm type A and have never felt better than now - I eat meat twice a day minimum.

As I understand it, people who have coeliac disease can do themselves permanent damage if they eat gluten, particularly if they come on and off a gluten free diet. The other gluten and wheat reactions seem, according to what I have read, to be more reversible. I conclude that the prescription (and why isn't it grocery vouchers!) of gluten free food is justifiable to reduce futher illnesses, such as stomach cancer, in coeliacs, rather than to make the life easier of anyone who needs a special diet.

The common diet in this country is so gluten heavy that trying to replicate it gluten free is an expensive and frustrating exercise. I find starting from what I can eat is much easier. Are you fine with oatcakes when you want something to hold jam? I find I can eat the normal ones, and don't need the more expensive free from variety.

As a coeliac sufferer, I am entitled to gluten free produce on prescription. I choose not to use that service as the products are equally full of crap. It's far easier to learn how to live without those foods than try to replace them.

"For other boys who carried the gene but who had not yet developed the symptoms, the oil was later found to reduce the risk of developing the full-blown disease. However, it could not reverse the extensive damage already caused to Lorenzo's nervous system."

    Medical response

The film received mixed responses from the medical community. While it seemed to accurately portray the events related to the boy's condition and his parents' efforts during the time period covered by the film, it was criticized for painting a picture of a miracle cure. Subsequent research with Lorenzo's oil has not clearly proven its effectiveness in treating ALD.The actual subject of the film, Lorenzo Odone, died in May 2008 at the age of 30, having lived two decades longer than originally predicted by doctors.

"Dr Choudri has coeliac disease himself and knows the importance of a gluten-free diet.

Without it, symptoms can range from digestive disorders to very serious illnesses including osteoporosis and bowel cancer."

    you say:

"And my IBS has stuck around despite not eating wheat."

you might know that type A should have more vegetarian based diet too...maybe that is why you still ahve this ibs issue...particularly if you are eating it twice a day....?;)

If blood type really had such an effect on food, it would be common-knowledge throughout the medical community....

WHY WOULD IT BE COMMON KNOWLEDGE. when doctors are trained i have not seen any of them have refresher courses. our doctors did nto even know about the latest remedies . i had to give her a photocopy!!! and lorenzos oil story is another example of parents who foudn a remedy!!!!
appreciate all the links as makes very interesting reading and continues my own research...!

    from one of those links:

"With an estimated one in 100 people affected by gluten intolerance, campaigners want the NHS to continue providing staple foods like bread and pasta.

These are increasingly available in shops, along with a wide range of gluten-free products. But they are often much more expensive than regular foods."

oh and by the way it is usually the dairy in the chocolate and cheese that triggers the migraines.

As a coeliac I am concerned about some of the misconceptions around about it. Firstly, a blood test is not considered gold standard for diagnosis as it only tests for an anti body- the ONLY way to diagnose coeliac is by biopsy. A biopsy is a fairly straight froward and painless procedure done via the mouth. If that biopsy is negative then you don't have coeliac.

It is quite possible to be gluten intolrant and not be a coeliac, and as has been stated that would not allow free prescriptions on the NHS.

lastly, anyone eating spelt flour and feeling Ok cannot be glutem intolerant as it is not gluten free, although many health shops try to pretend it is. Some people who just have a slight intolerance to wheat can tolerate spelt , but that has nothing to do with coeliac disease.

Also, coeliac is not a gluten intolerance that is a myth, I am not and was never allergic to or intolerant to gluten.

    http://www.coeliac.org.uk/coeliac-disease/myths-about-coeliac-disease

'Coeliac disease is a food allergy'….MYTH

Coeliac disease is not a food allergy or an intolerance, it is an autoimmune disease. In coeliac disease, eating gluten causes the lining of the small intestine to become damaged. Other parts of the body may be affected.
