can we ask for a gluten free prescription for

food from the doctor? it is costing us a lot of money and we are all gluten free in the household. my other half fell seriously ill but now off it we are seeing some progress. he is not diagnosed celiac as did not show up - as it does not always show up - so any tips really appreciated. i recently spoke to a lady in the supermarket and she mentioned her son had got a gluten free prescription but was in such a rush talking to her that did not have chance to ask her anymore. thanks for any advice!

Is there a reason that you are all eating gluten free as you only mention OH illness? It owould be cheaper (depending on your reasons) if only OH had gluten free. I did think though that you had to have the coeliac diagnosis to get the prescriptions.

So no diagnosed medical reason then. Perhaps your daughter outgrew her growing pains?
Realistically I think your chances of a prescription are slim.

we have managed to sort out health out through some of the foods we eat!!!! and doctors do years of study. i worked it out by going on youtube etc. ok i dont know everything but it has helped a lot. no my daughter ate wheat again and got the pains again!! and she ever had spots appearing on her face. they have now all gone! remember lorenzos oil film where the parents had to take over from the doctors and did help with the doctors research as they put the time and energy into it!

If it works for your family as a lifestyle choice, that's up to you.
Just don't expect an underfunded NHS to agree to pay for something self diagnosed through youtube.

ill . a lot of illnesses are due to food....!!!!;) wheat kills a lot of peopel at the end and can trigger cancers like cigarettes and drugs/drinks. in holland people get at least 700 pounds a month from ill health i thought i heard....

To be honest, I doubt that you'd get gluten-free food on prescription. I have IBS of which gluten is a major trigger. I was tested for coeliacs but the test was negative. I know that it doesn't always show up but in order to be prescribed gluten-free food, you normally have to have it diagnosed. I believe this is because coeliacs is a lifelong condition and can get alot worse if gluten is ingested, so the free prescription is there to help those who wouldn't be able to afford gluten-free otherwise.
Some GPs will send you for tests if the blood test is inconclusive though.

So you need to all go to your GP and ask for the tests then.

For those with Coeliacs who can't afford it. If you don't have Coeliacs, then the free Gluten Free prescription is a no-go.
