AGAIN!!!! I got no dinner last night.. we got here about 7pm and they put OH some dinner by and put the rest in the freezer so I got nothing.. AGAIN!!...

NOW, they are saying to just do sandwiches for dinner next time we visit..

Pigpen, that is soooooooo unwelcoming and against all the rules of hospitality. Do they not realise how much effort it takes you to get there, and how long it takes you to drive across the country? I would never go again either. OH should be backing you to the hilt - tell him to go alone in future.

Thanks for the recipe, Ionafan, it looks gorgeous. I just need to source some gooseberries;) ...Or I could use rhubarb *rubs chin*

Definitely. Add some chopped ginger (stem ginger in syrup from Mr S or crystallised from @ldi) to the fruit layer, or ground ginger to the base mixture. If you're not doing meringue on the rhubarb you will need a bit of sugar in with the fruit, but with the meringue you will get a delicious contrast between the sweet and sour.

As you can tell, I am a big fan of this recipe - it's so versatile.

DH has gone out to the railway so I must plod on with things here.... More houses to build ;)

He never even noticed I don't think. They have since made him bacon sandwiches and cheese on toast for the girls.

Iona.. I don't think they care how long it takes to get here.. OH does the driving but that has taken up to 4 hours (usually 2!!) on occasion. It takes me 3 days to pack.. OH does his I do everything else.. clothes, bedding, food, cutlery/plates, toys etc.. in addition to the usual stuff I do.

And to make matters worse, he has put my box of rice krispies on top of the cupboard and I can't reach them..

I don't even like sandwiches.. plus they slobber all over their fingers while making them and put smoked ham (BLEURGH!!) in them usually and salad. I can't eat salad it gives me horrendous stomach cramps and I hate smoked meat/fish it repeats something chronic..

I am in whinge mode today, can you tell? lol.

In my defence I am starving and surviving on cups of tea I am making myself because theirs are undrinkable :p

I sound really ungrateful I know.. I do appreciate they spend the time they do cooking a meal but sometimes I might actually like to eat something. I am INSISTING we go to Tesco on the way elsewhere (OH wants to look at ice skates in decathlon) so I can grab something to eat before I die of thinness ... hey, we can dream!! lol

AND they are smoking loads and it stinks... and I think I may be developing a stronger allergy to dogs.. YES!!! I don't like dogs very much anyway and strange ones make my nose irritated but I've not stopped snotting and sneezing since we got here lol.. They hate me enough as it is.

Two sets of neighbours have moved out in the past three days. D&M, our neighbours, have moved back to Canada having decided that their careers will fare better there. We're going to miss them hugely because they were lovely people who contributed to the community, were easy to get on with and hospitable - bonus!

The family opposite who smoked on the front doorstep in their pyjamas all day and never acknowledged anyone have moved on to pastures new. I'm not unhappy about them going because I work in front of a window which looks directly into that house and it's been really disconcerting having more than eight people staring back at me all day every day for six months.

The student house will also empty out within a week or so, so of the eight houses, three will be empty. It's going to feel really odd.

Flying-wise today, Lovely Lodger has finally managed to get her first load of washing *dry* by pegging it out - she says it's the first time anything has smelt of home (Sardinia). She was with us for two months last year and has been here five weeks this year!

I'm still working on the dining room. The paintwork is being washed down so that I can move all the furniture back into the right places and then next week I'll redo the stains that didn't disappear first time around and the rest of the room where the furniture is currently nesting. If, after that, I dust the light-fitting, turn out two drawers and a cupboard, that will be the first room that has had a complete FlyOver.
    Better is good enough.
