Mum and dad on holiday now, help appreciated

Hi all, my mum and dad and an aunt are all on holiday in Cala Millor in Majorca. Mum called today to say they have a problem, the gap to get to the shower in the bathroom is around 10 inches, between the a wall and a sink. My mum is a very large lady, and can't walk well, and can't get through the gap to the shower.

they arrived Friday, and spoke with receprion straight away. Were told to come back yesterday as the hotel was full. Same thing hapened yesterday, and this morning they were told there may be a room, but hat the could not view it first, they had to pack pup and move or not at all.

The hotel has an "annex" and people have been moving out of that all week as it's so bad, so they want to view a new room first before moving.
The manager is less than helpful refusing to give even her name.

I spoke with Easyjet holiday customer service on their behalf today (who are very helpful). They rang the hotel straight away and were told that iot is full. They suggested that my parents and aunt move hotel, but there would be a £300 price difference. I told them it's unacceptable!
They just rang back to say if mum and dad want to cancel they will get a £250 refund, I'm searching the web for alternatives, but the cheapest b+b right in town (mum can't walk far) is £400.
They suggested mum and dad may be moved by the hotel if they go back to see the manager, but I suspect this will be to the dreaded annex!

Luckily the single room my aunt is is is big enough, so mum has had a shower, but can anyone help as to where we stand on this? Does she have any rights, do the hotel have to provide a bathroom she can get into (she's a size 22, so big, but not colossal).

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

If the hotel is full it's full, so how can they do this?

So, annexe not suitable, hotel full and magic wand not working, Sounds like a case for Compensation Man, with Compensation Man's superpowers, he will arrange an upgrade to a 5 star hotel for your family, arrange for re imbursement of the cost of the holiday, arrange for each member of the party to be given free holidays for life, and a couple of grand for you for all the trouble that you've had to go through.

    Hurrah for Compensation Man !!!

10 inches - are you sure? I doubt if many of us could fit through!

10" at sink height - most of us would with ease.
Must admit though I've never understood women's clothes sizes,
is it 22 in feet or metres?

i came on here to ask for a bit of advice, not to be slated by small minded people. my mum and dad are elderly, my mum is fairly large they have sent me a photo and the gap is tiny.

they are not after an upgrade or compensation, they asked me for help.

they will speak to manager again tonight to see if there is a different room tomorrow.

i have spent a day worring about them, as neither is in great health and they wanted a nice relaxing holiday, the thought if them changing hotel is stress for them, so they are trying to solve an issue with unhelpful staff. sounds like some of you have been to the same school of charm as the hotel lot.

Thanks for all the practical help.

Can she not just stay there and shower in your Aunts room?

Then she won't have to stress and can enjoy her holiday.

That's far too sensible a solution.

It's best make the most of a bad situation rather than getting stressed and let it ruin their holiday. Just put it down as one of those "a funny thing happened on holiday" stories.

How long are they staying for? Are they happy with everything else apart from the shower? If they are not staying long and everything else is ok, maybe they are better off to stop stressing about it and just enjoy their holiday whilst your Mum uses your aunts shower. I know it is not ideal but they don't want to waste their time chasing hotel staff if the outcome is not going to be good.

Or is there a pool they can use? your Mum could use the pool showers afterwards for her daily wash. Again I appreciate it is not ideal but for a few days it wont do any harm.

Keep pestering the manager until something is done - even being moved into the annex might be better as you haven't actually seen the annex rooms. Making a nuisance of yourself at reception especially when people are checking in can often have great effect.
