can you post a picture of this gap it sounds terrible, I can't quite picture it from your posts, PM me if you would rather

This isn't a great picture, but the gap isn't much bigger than the span of my dad's hand. They aren't letting it spoil things, even though the hotel deny that Easyjet called them. Some rooms are OK, this one is known to be bad. The room mum is showering in is 3 or 4 floors away, but at least she is clean!

I think even I would have nasty bruises from squeezing past this corner, and I am a size 10,

that's ridiculous, how would a pregnant lady manage, or a disabled person? and suppose you were stuck in the shower and there was a fire??

I guess if you got in you could get out, especially if you were soapy.

Because Zacksmum, I am sick of folk trying to get something for nothing, claiming for fake injuries or hurt feelings, people like them encourage the health and safety brigade to curtail everyones freedoms and their selfish actions have directly put the cost of almost everything up for everyone else.

So if you were injured you wouldn't make a claim in case people thought you were trying to get something for nothing?

If this was my mum and dad I would be upset as well. I sincerely hope that they manage to have a good holiday.
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

If this was anyone I cared about I would be too - that much more so if they were older and had any sort of mobility issues...quite certain I would struggle to fit through that gap without some contortion and thinking about how I would feel in the situation, speaking to the hotel about the issue, etc...it wouldn't make for a nice holiday experience - of that much I am sure. I find it surprising that there's not some sort of building code that requires a bit more space there but regardless ...glad that she's got a reasonable, workable option and that they are getting on with their holiday.

Maybe when she gets back posting a review of her experience at the hotel and stating the room number may be worth considering. I can understand the 'if they have no other rooms what can they do?' argument...and maybe I've just been lucky - maybe hotels the world over have bathrooms with layouts like this - but it seems a bit extreme.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Looks like Dad got through and Mum took the photo from 'before the gap' Person behind gap doesn't fit Mum's description although does fit the gap.

This does seem to be very dangerous from a health & safety point of view. What if anyone, no matter what size, fell in the shower, had a heart attack, or got injured when in the shower, and had to have people get him or her out.

I think that checking daily with the management, standing there quietly until they do acknowledge you, and if there are people trying to check in then stand your ground, saying to everyone that "I'm next".

On my return, I would be on to TripAdvisor to post a review showing the photograph.

I assume that this is not a package holiday, otherwise I think you could ask for another hotel.

Unfortunately, if your parents are like us, we are often in quite cheap hotels, and that does impact on space. Not that it stops us complaining, however. A friend of mine has been to one hotel 7 times now and is so fussy, they give her a key and ask her to see if she's happy with the room before she gets checked-in.

I'm also against the compensation culture, but the replies you have received have been unreasonable, unhelpful (especially for your parents who are not having a pleasant holiday) and plain nasty.

You don't go on holiday to have these hassles, paying quite a bit of precious money in the meantime. The hotel designer has been squashing people into the tiniest space to get more people into the hotel. They are greedy and the hotel will know very well what's going on.

In future, my recommendation would be to check all the reviews on TripAdvisor, and I do hope they post their experiences there for other travellers.

Looking at the photo, if I was the hotel, I would remove that sink surround and replace it with something smaller. I weigh 65 kgs and am unsure if I could manage to get around there, it's unacceptable.

    Good luck.

PS - next time e-mail the hotel direct and keep the copies.

just wanted to say what a lovely caring daughter you are. how wonderful that your parents can contact you and you are immediately on hand to help and try to ease the situation. heart warming.

I hope they do manage to have a good holiday and I truly believe this room is not fit for purpose. the should not put a person in the room that cannot access the washing facilities. what if it was just your mum and dad and no aunt - there would be a much bigger problem on hand then.

im also against compensation culture but in this case I think you have every right to complain. that bathroom is stupid x
