It does sound like the Solana from Benidorm doesn't it? Short term solution is to use the shower in my Auntie's single room, much more private than round the pool!0

gosh some of these responses are harsh & unhelpful. what a shame - I thought this forum was about helping each other.
i don't think these measurements sound right even for a normal sized person.
I would be concerned for my parents also – it may seem trivial to some but I understand that many older people may really stress about things like this.
I hope the workaround is ok and they have as nice a holiday as possible.

Do keep us updated on how she gets on, good job your aunt is there at least she has an option.0

Thank you to hairbrain05 and Archergirl, I did get very upset by the first responses yesterday, they are in their 70's and things like this do cause stress to them! Will keep you posted.0

For future holidays it would be worth considering their mobility problems rather than picking somewhere at random from the brochure. My parents are the same age and they are having to, reluctantly, accept that their limitations and that they aren't as young or as active as they used to be.
Many hotels do have adapted facilities for the elderly and disabled (it is after all a big market) but they need to plan for this in advance, not just turn up at a hotel and expect them to accommodate their needs and demand compensation.0 -

Take no notice of some of the posters, they obviously have nothing better to do.
Good for you for trying to help your parents, I hope they complain when they get back.0 -
Thanks all,
To be honest they have been going on cruises for the last few holidays, and have decided its the way forward again. The service they get is fantastic, they get help with cases ect. They do book assistance on the airlines, just because they take a bit longer to board.
It may be a wake up call to mum for a weight loss campaign, I'm sure she is really quite embarrassed by the whole thing, but its never happened before, and the hotel are aware that there is a layout issue in some rooms!
If they get changed room soon then I'm sure they won't even need to complain, but they are 3 days into a 14 day holiday, so fingers crossed.0 -
I think they have a cheek putting anyone in a room like that. It's obviously unsuitable and most people would be unhappy at having to squeeze through a 10" gap to get to the shower - I know I would.
Take some pictures OP, and ask your parents to make a note of who they speak to and what response they get. Also have a look at their brochure to see if there's any indication of this 10" gap in that.
Your parents may be able to make a claim in the Small Claims Court when they get home.0 -

Or try Compensation Man, with his superpowers he can fabricate a reasonable sounding claim out of absolutely nothing.0 -
Just for future reference, DH and I are an older couple, very experienced travellers but with mobility problems, but we always always always make this known beforehand, stating that we want a 'cubicle shower' (can't climb into bath for shower over bath). We've found that travel firms/hoteliers are usually very helpful if they know the problem beforehand - after all they want the repeat business, 'bums in beds', and it does their business no good if people come home and tell all their friends 'don't go there, it's rubbish'.
Size 22 varies an awful lot. However, it IS possible to lose weight even with reduced mobility. All that extra weight is putting extra strain on her heart and her joints and is doing her no good at all.
I could write a book on cr*p places we've stayed in! A hotel full of wrinklies over Christmas where the one remaining lift broke down on Christmas Day - don't get me started. Usually, we don't stay longer than we have to.
EasyJet fly from our local airport half a mile away from us - now, I fancy a little sun later in the year especially if we get another cr*p summer. Are they to be trusted regarding holidays for those of us with - er - special requirements, think you?Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0
