meter tampering

  • Yes I agree that there should be a deterrent but I reported one of our tenants for tampering her electric meter --- meter was disconnected and taken away -- she skipped -- and I`ll have to pay to have it replaced ---- reported someone else for tampering the gas meter --- they were visited because they had been using a spare meter -- nothing happened

No I wouldn`t like to be a Muslim at the airport or to be young and black on the streets of London -- I feel sorry for the innocent ones -- but air travel has to be safeguarded and the streets need to be policed and I am sure that a certain type of white person is probably stopped and searched by the police as well -- in my book --- if you are not hiding anything what`s the problem -- same thing with CCTV -- if you are not doing anything wrong -- what`s the problem --- football fans are regularly on TV at football matches -- does anyone complain about that ?

And energy theft has to be prevented. To use your words, if you're not doing anything wrong what's the problem?

BG have put you through the wringer, now they're recognising you've done nothing wrong and are wiping all moneys owed and asking you to sign a confidentiality agreement, what's wrong with that?

Maybe you've been the victim of "profiling" because you run a Chinese Takeaway?

Whilst I think your treatment is appalling, just to play devils advocate, many would argue that the odd false accusation is a just byproduct of having an active system of deterrent. Certainly BG are the only supplier doing anything at all about energy theft.

If you think what you put up with was bad, try being a Muslim at the airport or be young and black on the streets of London!

If I was in Queensland Australia just now I and my mates would be the ones getting "profiled", sometimes it's just bad luck, sometimes it's othersa bit like you who cast a cloud on all of you.

yes yes yes -- I agree energy theft has been prevented -- but what does your sentence mean --- all that I want is the fictitious " debt " written off and a formal apology from BG for what they have put us both through --- let`s not forget that if I hadn`t spent all the time that I have spent fighting these people they would have put us under

Like I said we are seeking a formal and official apology from BG and I still object to signing a gagging order because it should be I who decides whether to discuss further with anyone --- like I have said I think I would be careful who I talked to because there are people who would think that they CAN get away with energy theft -- any kind of theft is wrong --- they are stealing post boxes now !!! and selling them to collectors --- where will it stop .. never perhaps !!!

Brilliant! Anyone stealing gas can now read this forum and will know that if they keep denying it, as long as they don't have a video recording of them tampering with the meter, they won't get prosecuted!

Also, I'm unsure why you're bringing anyones salary into this? It has no relevance to the conversation at all. I'm sure the CEO of Centrica is paid a similar salary to any other huge multinational company. This level of pay is dictated by a global market and not by those at British Gas or Centrica.
Its very rare for anyone to be dragged before the court, Ptwparkinson went because he forced BG into spending money on Barristers. On the recent "Inside Out " expose on BBC last month we saw the usual methods of BG RPU in action. Once a bypass was detected at a takeaway there was no question it would go to court, just a repayment plan set in motion, the occupier even asked for a discount. One big fiddle of over 19k last year ( large 6 bedroom house with top of the range Mercs and a tennis court ), there was also no question of it going to court so long as he paid it back, which he did by cheque . I might add that this thief has now switched to Utility Warehouse from BG and is now refusing access again to meter readers and will be back to his old ways I d bet. No deterrents, no fear of the courts. Ptwparkinson bucked the trend and stuck to his guns and more or less forced BG to take him to court
I agree with littletommytucker, which is why they wanted Pweparkinson to sign a gagging order so as not to publicise the case

I cut 4 off today for ilegal supplys, the builder is likely to be prosecuted
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

The Doncaster Free Press, 95p out every Thursday, reports everything which go s thro both the Crown and Magistrates courts. In the last few years I have never seen a single case of prosecution for energy theft reported. The cannabis farm finds get reported, but even they dont get a mention of the thousands of pound worth of stolen energy used to grow the crop. The case of the 19k s back pay for the large house of a prolific energy thief is an example. Now hes with Utility Warehouse he ll be fine, they wont bother him ever. Any other theft of that amount of hard cash would have been a visit to the Crown court and maybe a prison sentence. The suppliers are getting away with it , making us pay for the costs of them not spending enough on Revenue Protection people on the job. BG are good, could be better, the rest are dismal to the point of maladministration. Ofgem have just issued another directive to them all to tighten up on energy theft
  • Just to make a correction for the record
We have not actually been to court as of yet
The criminal case which was presented to the Police and the CPS was thrown out
I have asked BG several times to take this to the Civil Court so we will have a chance to clear our names
BG said late last year that they were in the process of building a case
Then the next thing we hear is when we get a letter from Face To Face who were in the process of going to court to obtain a Warrant to disconnect ---- that was withdrawn at 5.45 pm the evening before the court hearing was due to take place
Then we received another letter in January to do the same thing -- that was withdrawn a few days before the scheduled hearing
Since I refused to sign their contract to prevent me from disclosing details of the outcome we received a letter from solicitors who are now tasked with recovery of the " debt " --- I have explained to them that we don`t owe any money etc etc and I have sent them approx. 60 or more e mails that I have generated over the course of the last year and few months ---- so now waiting to hear from them --- on it goes !!!
  • Still awaiting a reply from the BG solicitors --- after we refused to sign the gagging order we had a letter from their solicitors demanding payment of the " debt " or else there would be court action -- I replied that we want to go to court so that we can clear our names --- it`s gone quiet again -- I want to get this thing finished and for BG to apologise etc etc etc
  • Which solicitors do they use?
