Shopping Pet Hates

Oh blimey yes!! Last time I witnessed this, it was a woman who wanted 1 bottle of wine and was with her daughter. They refused to sell it to her because of daughter's age. She made a massive scene (rightly so) about whether the cashier thought she really was going to buy a bottle of wine to give to a five year old. Cashier wasn't interested at all!
Woman then sent her partner outside of the store with daughter, and then asked, "WILL YOU SERVE ME NOW THEN?" And the Cashier still refused. So she refused to pay for all her shopping (which was a very very large amount) and left to the applause of almost the whole store.0 -
Staff that don't understand the legal age for alcohol. The think 25 system is for the staff member to consider if someone looks over 25 and if not ID them.
I was asked if I was over 25, to which I said no I'm 24, and then he said, "Okay, as you're not over 25 I need some ID." !!!!!!?!
You have to prove your age if you are under 25.:coffee:0 -
I hate it when a parent is shopping with their kid and the kid is eating a chocolate bar/packet of crisps or drinking something that they've picked up off of the shelf and haven't paid for yet and then they go and pay for the empty packet/container at the till. Sometimes I have also seen a fat woman walking around eating something when shopping alone.
HATE IT.
My diabetic mother used to need to eat when out shopping, and would identify when her blood sugar was low and take something from the shelf to consume as she shopped. The looks she used to get from other customers and from the checkout staff were incredibly embarrassing.0 -
I used to work on a checkout an we were told we had to do the inane chat, which I hated. Couldn't shut some people up though! My pet hate is also people eating things on the way round, plan ahead and put something in your bag for the kids (I have a one year old and always put a snack on bag when we go shopping) I can't tell you how gross it is for a checkout worker to have to scan something through that has been totally mushed and slobbered on by a toddler, let alone an adult!0

I absolutely hate those people who just chat on their phone or stare into the middle distance when their purchases are being scanned. They only start to pack them once they have paid which means the people behind are in for a long wait. I also absolutely loathe those people who hold the queue up by deciding that would be a great time to tell all the staff their life story. I mainly go to the supermarket at lunchtime and there is often some idiot at the front of the queue doing this. What gets me is that they will often glance back at the 20 people in the queue and then start chit-chatting to the cashier!
If I ever become rich I will exclusively shop at Waitrose. Every Waitrose I have been into has been clean and quiet. Why don't you get screaming brats in Waitrose? I either see no children (perhaps they are with the nanny?) or well-behaved children. They also do amazing cakes...0 -
Staff leaving stock in the way when filling the shelves, so it ends up being like a slalom.
Getting to the checkout and they chuck your stuff through so quick theres no way you can keep up.0 -

And of course, it would be entirely legal for her to be buying wine to give to her five year old. The whole thing was an example of trading standards over-reaching themselves, and supermarkets gold-plating.
It is illegal for you purchase alcohol "on behalf of" someone who is underage.
It is entirely legal to buy alcohol and then permit your own children to consume it in your own house, so long as they are over five.
You can argue that it's bad parenting, although "feeding six year olds vodka" and "allowing your seventeen year old to have a glass of wine with Christmas dinner" are rather different. But the same could be said of ice cream, if you were sufficiently neurotic.
Has anyone heard of this happening recently?0 -
those who dont like people chatting, chatting makes the world go round, for some people they dont get to chat to many people.
Its nice hearing people be friendly rather than acting like zombies at the checkout.:footie:0 -
Just did my shopping this morning. As I drove off 2 cars went for my space, neither were going to back down and as I was stuck in traffic to get out of the carpark I could still see them arguing. What was strange was there were at least 5 empty spaces close to mine. Perhaps my space had special mystical powers they knew about...
Till receipts that also come with random surveys that you can enter on line to win money. It has all the information on the receipt but the poor checkout person still has to read it all to you anyway.0 -

I don't mind a bit of chatting whilst the purchases are being scanned and the customer is packing. But, when that chatting goes on once the transaction has finished or the two people stop what they are doing to chat it drives me mad. I do think shop staff need to be a bit more business-like during busy periods and perhaps leave the chit-chat to times when the shop is quiet.0
