  • Try the Primrose Bar & Restaurant Ballynahinch for excellent food at reasonable prices. I prefer to eat in the bar for the atmosphere but the prices are much the same in the restaurant.
The Dirty Duck and the Platform in Holywood are also worth a visit.

The Old Moat Inn in Dundonald has great food in the lounge upstairs, and Mon-Thurs. they do an early bird special at £7.95 which gets you a starter and main course. It is just across from the Ulster hospital.

Also "The Point" in Ballyhackamore (upper Newtownards Rd.) is a good place for a meal.
  • If you're feeling flush Aldins on the Newtownards Road Belfast is really lovely and The Villager in Crossgar do a 3 course meal for two and a bottle of wine for £34.95 Mon - Thurs.

  • For those prepared to venture “out to the sticks” I would recommend The Apparo in Draperstown. While I have only had the lunch “Roast of the day” on three occasions, each time it was exceptional. The service was excellent and the price very reasonable.

For a very good breakfast I would suggest a restaurant just outside Swatragh, based in an old factory on the Coleraine side of the village
  • Water Margin on Donegal Pass. Great place, atmosphere (it's a converted church) and really helpful friendly staff.
Food was fabulous - reasonably priced for quality and the choice was huge - the meal for 2 was great. I noticed their christmas lunch (sorry but it is a bargain) is only £13.50 and their christmas dinner £21.50 with 10% OFF for parties of over 10 - ideal for works night out. Definately will be back

have u not been to this place - http://www.edsbarandgrill.com

I have to add the third recommendation for this place. It was the best family restaurant I've been to. Fantastic service, lovely ambiance, huge plates of good food, tolerant of toddlers and their mucky ways, reasonably priced - I can't wait until we go back!
You go to a place like this and you realise how mediocre most restaurants are. For example the Cultra Inn. Lovely pub, great ambiance but the food is really poor and expensive. You might forgive them if it was £6 for a main course but they look for £12+ for main courses that are devoid of any kind of flavour.

Mourne Seafood Bar, Bank Street Belfast (down the entry between Primark & Tesco, beside Kelly's Cellars)

Aldens, Ballyhackamore (Upper N'Ards Rd), Belfast

Metro Brasserie (opposite the Empire, Botanic Avenue, Belfast)

    The Quays at Portavogie Harbour
  • I'll second the Metro Brasserie!!

Also, D'Angelo's on the Lisburn Road (see seperate thread)

Deane's at Queen's was really good for a party of ten of us recently - they didn't ask for a credit card to assure the booking (unlike certain contraversial restaurants - has everyone forgotten about that?). Food was excellent, reasonably priced but the service was quite slow. In fairness they were slow and they knocked a few quid off the bill.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"
