Facts and Statistics

The UKIP policy on energy trots out the ancient urban myth that China builds a coal-fired power station every single week.

If the industrialised part of China is roughly like a European nation or an American state, and a coal-fired power station can generate enough power for an urban area like Sheffield, Bristol, Lyon, Chicago etc, then are we seriously supposed to believe that China establishes a new urban area on that scale 52 times a year?

Chinese GDP is $7,300,000,000,000 growing at a rate 9%+ which means that GDP is growing at about $13,000,000,000 a week.

The UK has about 250 power stations according to Wikipedia excluding 'small hydro schemes' (400 listed, 160 marked as demolished) and a GDP of roughly $2,500,000,000,000 so that's about 1 power station per $10,000,000,000 of GDP.

That passes the 'sniff test' I reckon.

One thing that UKIP are good with, is answers.

They don't generally put themselves in a corner.

Lots of people are now trying to catch them out. Labour did it yesterday by trying to make something of the fact that UKIP policies are under review and they have not got a set of polished policies.

    They were swiftly dispatched with.

It was of great amusement to watch Labour try to have a pop at another party for not having a full set of calculated policies, when, asked any question, labour turn around and they they can't give answers or tell us what they would do as they can't see the books.

It's almost as if the main parties are trying to hard to damage UKIP, the only people they are damaging are themselves.

There are several threads like this in discussion time, where people try to find holes....any holes in policy. Every single one has gone the same way. The hole has been filled, so it's back to claiming that UKIP are Nazis.

I read something in the Aussie papers today saying that Mr Farage had invited Ken Clark to speak at the next UKIP conference as the last time he spoke about UKIP their polling went up 3% points!

Yes - I actually watched that, he said it on a programme called This Week if I recall correctly. He's been on our screens quite a lot!

Ken Clarke had the previous day gone on camera and called the UKIP a collection of clowns with no policies other than being against foreigners.

Farage responded by suggesting Clarke was holding the British public in utter contempt.

Of course, Clarke was not really insulting the party, rather 26% of the electorate. Ken Clarke is a very intelligent man, but like I said earlier, it seems the more they try to damage UKIP, the more they damage themselves. They simply don't get that people are aligning with UKIP because of the 3 main parties.

Even the tory led smear campaign didn't work in the tories favour. All the digging the tories did simply enabled Farage to dispatch of the 6 candidates that had links with the BNP extremely swiftly. He then turned around and asked which other party would dismiss people so quick instead of trying to cover up.

Again, people liked the quick dispatch. The cover up line worked well, especially considering the expenses scandal, and again, UKIP benefited from a main parties smearing.

Actually I though the stat' was 1 new coal fired power station every 10 days.
There is another one related to the number of airports the Chinese are constructing/opening but I can't remember what is is.

I think it was 20 airports opened in the time it took to have the Heathrow enquiry. I may be wrong though.

Are you attempting to replace DLW?

UKIP have changed the political landscape. The main parties have taken a beating. So the onus is on them to come out with policies.
