This is one of the most bizarre threads we have seen on this forum for quite some time!

I think you mean pointless rather than bizarre.

The Chinese Government doesn't produce stats on stuff like this AFAIK (one of the joys of living in a Socialist Paradise) so we can never say for certain.

The original proposition by UKIP is clearly reasonable if not necessarily on the nose. You'd have to be a joyless ideologue to want to shoot down every word said by them though but then that's C21st politics for you.

Power station design and project management and build are areas where Western companies provide service to China (and very profitable it is too).

My bil heads up one such large company.

And yes, at one point demand was peaking at 3 power stations per week.

I am not sure why anyone finds this surprising? Gen has pointed to the growth in their economy.

Demand will come from increased industry production; but also as Chinese consumers become more affluent their energy consumption increases.

Gets forgotten that in rural regions, 20 farmers still share a single donkey. So a long way to go before China as a whole enjoys a standard of living we would regard as acceptable.

I completely agree. In some places they start from a very low base.

However, even Chinese farmers may have aspirations for a better lifestyle. In their case a shared tractor to replace that shared donkey perhaps :)

UKIP said 19 share the donkey, Labour 21. Do you have a link? If not I don't accept your argument.

I am pleased that you have managed to work out 'the point' of the thread...
