Ken Clarke had the previous day gone on camera and called the UKIP a collection of clowns with no policies other than being against foreigners.
Farage responded by suggesting Clarke was holding the British public in utter contempt.
Of course, Clarke was not really insulting the party, rather 26% of the electorate. Ken Clarke is a very intelligent man, but like I said earlier, it seems the more they try to damage UKIP, the more they damage themselves. They simply don't get that people are aligning with UKIP because of the 3 main parties.
Even the tory led smear campaign didn't work in the tories favour. All the digging the tories did simply enabled Farage to dispatch of the 6 candidates that had links with the BNP extremely swiftly. He then turned around and asked which other party would dismiss people so quick instead of trying to cover up.
Again, people liked the quick dispatch. The cover up line worked well, especially considering the expenses scandal, and again, UKIP benefited from a main parties smearing.

UKIP have changed the political landscape. The main parties have taken a beating. So the onus is on them to come out with policies.
This assumes that the reason for their success is that they have policies and the others do not.
The only UKIP policies most people know about is to stop 30 million criminal Bulgarians and Romanians relocating to London and leaving the EU regardless of the economic consequences. The others do have policies on these issues at least.
I was quite intrigued by Farage's interview on PM last night in which he admitted that his elected candidates can operate independently of the party line on which they were elected.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

UKIP's economists have published detailed reports and analysis of how being outside the EU would actually benefit the economy rather than harm it.
You choose to ignore these reports and then claim they don't exist.

Isn't that simply a recognition of the British constitution?
You vote for an MP to represent you not a party.0 -

I suspect that most people who voted UKIP have not read them either.
I do not choose to ignore them and I never claimed they did not exist (do show me where I said this? )
I do admit I was unaware of them, I will have a look.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

True. It is however unusual for a party to say that their candidates will not necessarily follow the manifesto they were elected upon.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Do any BME people have a problem with the term?
