hi guys

I have just logged in to my Halifax online banking to find my 3 Rewards have been downgraded to Current Accounts.

My mistake though as I didn't get round to setup the direct debits until the 17th of the month.

I really hoped the date of 14th April was just to ensure people would act before the end of April. Oh we'll it's my own fault never mind.

Has this happened to anyone else?

They seem to have done the same thing to me. I'm still waiting for my direct debits to be set up.

If its not a glitch, then I think that Halifax have broken their T&C - that doesn't mention 14 April and says customers will be given two months notice before accounts are downgraded...

    Regards

Hmmm, my Rewards Account appears to have been downgraded too, however I had two direct debits set up before 14th April. I actually have three set up now.

Only one of them has paid out so far, and that was 17th April. All three are due to pay out this month.

If I try to upgrade it to the Rewards account I'm told: "Sorry, this account is not available to you at the moment. Please call us on 0845 720 3040."

The new rules come into effect on 1st May, which means you need to have two PAID direct debits in April to get £5 on 1st May. If the DDs come out in May, you can re-apply for the reward account once the DDs have been paid. However, if you previously had more than one reward, you can only re-apply for one of them.

(Mine are still Reward accounts, but I setup the DDs when I got the letter in March)

That's not been my understanding (throughout all I've read one here and on the Halifax website).

May's £5 Reward should be paid on the old T&Cs, ie £1K deposit during April in my opinion.

I suspect there's been a glitch...but do agree they'll only reinstate one Reward account on appeal.

Mine have been paid since February, so 3 months of DDs so far.

Just checked my accounts and they're all still tagged 'Reward'.

I opened (switched to) a new Halifax Reward account in late April, paid in over £1000, and got my reward payment on 2nd May, despite most of my direct debits having yet to fully transfer (and none of them were paid out in April).

No, they didn't - they don't apply retrospectively.

The May payment only required the 'old style' 1k deposit as it was a payment for April in arrears.

I was told that they were applying the 1 single & 1 joint rule much more strictly so anyone with more than that may have an issue

If it is a glitch, how very convenient!

A glitch that could save them thousands of pounds as when you report it they could point out the new T&Cs and only give you £5 on one account.

Couldn't they just have covered themselves by saying after 1st may we will convert any accounts above the 1 allowed? Surely by having this glitch (if this is the case) you could complain and if no result direct to ombudsman?
