my OH's account was paid £5.00 on the 1st May but has since been downgraded to a "current account".

2 DD's left her account today and £750.00 was paid in. I am not sure how the downgrade could have kicked in before the 31st May (for June £5 reward), how would they know May's criteria would not be met.?

I accept one of the DD's was not active on the 14th April but was set up, for the 1st payment to leave today, the other has been running for months.

is there any likelihood of the account auto upgrading again come 1st June as the criteria has been met during the month where the new T&C's were active?

p.s does anyone know what Halifax's policy is on speaking to non account holders over the phone? if my wife passes security can she hand the phone to me to sort the issue?

I wouldn't imagine it'll automatically upgrade on 1 June, it you've met all of the terms, it looks like you'll have to speak to them.

As long as your wife goes through security with them first, they will speak to you regarding the account. I've done this with OH in the past with lots of banks/building societies (I usually deal with the finances as OH can't be bothered rolleyes.gif).

I had 3 reward accounts. I have had two downgraded due to not be allowed more than one sole (can have another as a joint). The lady on the phone was so helpful and tried to get me upgraded, but 'upgrade dept' wouldn't allow it as the only one per customer is now automatically flagging on their system and downgrading automatically.

PS. I called the 01132421984 number rather than the 0845 number and got through straight away.

    Good luck!

I wonder how they're selecting those to downgrade then? I've got 3 sole, 1 joint, OH has 2 sole and they're all still showing as Reward. If yours have been downgraded because they've been automatically flagged, I wonder why they haven't downgraded everyone's. Were your 2 DDs set up by the 14 April?

That's some delay, bearing in mind the letters went out in January!

Point taken in respect of my husband, (getting action on finances is not easy!) but in respect of my son, he only had 1 valid DD that could be transferred. To get a 2nd DD I applied for a credit card, then got him on as an additional user and then he requested the DD. As the card provider would only put him on after hard copies of documentary evidence - how old-fashioned is that! - that created a substantial delay. Unless you are a householder, direct debits are not that easy to come by!

If he doesn't get his account re-instated as a reward account, going to the Ombudsman will be good experience for him!

You do realise it's a current account aimed at those with a decent regular income who will use it as their main account? It's not some kind of youth account or basic account that they hand out to anyone.

Complain to the ombudsman all you like, they'll just dismiss you. It's not Halifax's fault that you couldn't trick them in time to save the reward status!

Yes all DD's set up by the 14th April and I pay £1000 through each. Apparently they said the system is automatically flagging them. Obviously not the case though as it appears some people still have >1. Never mind, great whilst it lasted, slightly disappointed though!

Maybe they're working through them alphabetically  (hope not!).

Since they emphasize different DDs, I suppose they might try to argue that for 3 Reward accounts you need 6 different DDs, not like 3 Egg and 3 Tesco.

Considering that each account is a stand alone account, they would be hard pushed to make this stick. I honestly don't think they'd even try this.

Whatever DD's you have on one account are nothing to do with whatever DD's you have on another account.
