Can someone help me find car insurance for 2-3 weeks as all i get are yearly quotes?

    thanks,
Google "short term car insurance" - there are a few companies who will provide policies for up to 28 days. I believe they can be quite expensive though, so an alternative is to find an annual policy with a low cancellation fee, and cancel it when you no longer need it. Try not to have an accident if you go down that route though as you'll only get a refund on (most of) your premium if you haven't made any claims.
    1. How about insuring a car for using abroad in an EC country cor more than 90 days.
    2. Does anone know a good cheap company I should get a quote from. (I realize that's an oxymoron)
    3. Thank bf3

Hello. I need some advice on my car renewal policy - it's gone up this year almost twice and I don't understand the reason why. I am 31 and have a driving license for 10 years, my partner is 32, he has a driving license for 11 years. We have BMW 320 series. Always paid around £500, this time it came £1200!!! quite surprised as we have 5 years no claim bonus, but it seems to be not working. Tried also comparison websites and still the same. Any advice please ?

Have you tried comparison websites to get a better quote
See MSE's article on that subject

Then if you want to stay with the same company try haggling with them. Tell them you have a better quote elsewhere and see if they will better it
They've got to be trying it on hoping you'll renew without questioning to save hassle of switching

I've rang them and they didn't seem to be bothered of keeping me, as a customer!!! they just said if I want to leave I can leave!! that was strange actually.....I never had any problems with them before, but recently they've changed the name, maybe the company itself is experiencing some problems, don't know. It's Octagon!

  • Had LV insurance renewal through the post £173. Used comparison site and same insurer came up for £156. Rang insurer and after checking they offered me the same £156 price.

I've always done that with Hastings Direct, every year the renewal price went up despite an extra year NCB (I'm over 50 so don't think age affects me anymore) and yet the comparison sites were always lower. A quick phone call always got it sorted.

This year they raised it to £248 which compared badly to quotes as low as circa £160 but Direct Lines £177 with £60 voucher via MSE's code is a clear winner. Hastings offered £188 when I phoned to stop the auto renewal going through, why not offer that in the first place?

    Edit: thank you MSE
  • Any advice about what I can do about this:
Had an accident (not my fault - car turned right in front of me - all settled), car written off as result. Found a new car but when I've rung M&S insurance to do a change of car, they've told me that the underwriter won't allow me to do a change up to renewal (May) & that I'll have to do a new annual policy. Quoted me an extortionate amount for this new policy & then told me, if I don't want to do this, they'll charge a £55 cancellation fee!!

    Any thoughts??
