My current insurance with Bell is 1200. Despite having 1 years no claims now Bell quoted me 1450 for renewal. Admiral quoted 710. It's an insane difference for a exact like for like policy. Bell now price matching using the quote reference so they know they're taking advantage of people and it's an area that should be legislated more heavily to stop this rip off.
  • I wonder if anyone can help me; I'm struggling to get myself the car insurance I'd like at the right price.

I have 7 years proof of named driver no claims, but having bought a new car (& now being 25), I would like a new comprehensive policy as the policy holder & main driver. The car (a 1.6 Auris) would be used for personal & business use with an estimated total annual mileage of 9000. I would add a named driver to the policy with 43 years driving experience & maximum no claims. (I also have a dash cam - which I hear can help)

I've gone barmy looking at individual providers sites, comparison sites, & companies I'm already affiliated with (incase of discount) etc.

The best I've found is Hastings - whom I'm a named driver with & have a multi car discount with through 2 cars already insured with them in my household - they originally quoted me £595 but when I went to retrieve the quote & pay, the price jumped nearly £70 - I rerun the quote & the price went up again - I've checked several times since & the quote currently stands at £715. I spoke to Hastings who said the underwriters control it & the prices are changing minute-by-minute & that they couldn't do anything about it. I've sent in a complaint to them, but if anyone is able to explain the £120 increase in just over a week it would stop some head scratching.

Despite this increase - it is still one of the cheapest, but whilst I've been running quotes I've noticed that everyone seems to be following suit (not quite so severely but still increasing!) I know there was meant to be a price hike, but not by that much in a week surely?

I'm going to chat to an insurance broker tomorrow, but if any one has any advice or thinks of anything I haven't thought of it'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

2015 paid £~450, 2016 went up to £520 and now got a renewal of £910 with more NCD and no accidents.

All the search engines have given me £910 or more. I don't understand why!!! So I phone up my existing insurance company and reduced my mileage from 9k to 8k and value of car from £4950 to £3000, guess what? My new quote came to £1000!!! I told them I have reduced mileage and value so how come it's gone up? Their answer "that's what the computer says".

This is a rip off of poor working class people, car insurance is compulsory and the industry can rip us off however much they want and we can't do anything against them.

£30 billion spend by the regime destroying Iraq (their hospitals, schools, bridges, massacring 1 million Iraqis)

£200 billion for the fraudsters in the banking industry who gave out fraudulent mortgages so they could make the referral bonuses (watch "the big short")

£120 billion to make weapons of mass destruction (Trident) which is illegal under international law (read the non-proliferation treaty).

£100's of millions supporting the terrorists in Syria...

Always money for war, bankers, WMD, but never anything for the working class people from this evil terrorist supporting regime we have in London.

That regime was thrown out in 2010.

The Big Short is about the USA.

We don't make Trident. The USA do. We make the submarines and the warheads. The annual cost of the programme is about £3 billion.

I expect if you looked at the total cost of building the new Vanguard subs you would get a bigger number. But the subs will last for 30 years. If you added up the cost of paying the state pension over 30 years you would probably come up with a number in the region of £2000 bn to £3000 bn.

If you had actually read the Non-proliferation Treaty you would know that the UK is a "nuclear-weapon State Party" to the treaty, and that we have promised not to share nuclear weapons with "any non-nuclear-weapon State". That's what non-proliferation means. It also means that the NPT recognises the UK's nuclear weapons as being 100% legal. (In terms of international law.)

Which ones? Are we supposed to do nothing whilst Assad gases his own people?

P.S. I don't think that changing any of the above would actually affect car insurance rates.:)

@Seed You are not doing yourself any favours by trolling here. Why don't you go on a political website where your post may attract more traction?

So you are saying you support the government spending and corporate corruption? Who are you? Theresa May? One of her cronies?

Go look for your morals and sense of human decency, I think you lost them somewhere...
  • so as a new driver just turned 25, my insurance was coming out at 3800. But with following these tips I managed to get down to 1460. I know its still a lot but its what i was expecting to be paying anyway. I put my mum and mother in law on my insurance which saved me 1300 in itself. Changing my job description saved me 250, and the rest was trial and error with mileage etc. Funnily enough what i don't understand is that i use my car for business use, which actually was cheaper than insuring just domestic, social use. Also I got mine cheaper going direct to admiral rather than using a comparison site even though it was same cover. I know i could have got 2 for 1 cinema tickets, but i've got a young baby so no chance of getting to the cinema anyway haha.

    Thanks MSE
  • I've just got a reduction of £600pa with Direct Line on what my son was paying last year for car insurance after working through the comparison sites. None of the insurers on those sites could match Direct Line's price and were quoting around £400 pa more.
  • Renewal quote for myself and partner was £755 for 12 month policy with Admiral. Spent a day and a half checking other quotes and going back and forth with Admiral and got it down to £612 for 12 months or £527 on 10 month bonus accelerator.

Decided to check what the cost would be putting the policy in my partner's name with me listed as main driver - end result is a 10 month policy at £455 (equivalent to £546 as a 12 month policy).

NCB is earned for both named drivers on the policy (transferable within EUI group) so I'll be taking a look at whether it pays to shift it again next renewal.
  • i have just had a renewal through for car insurance for £1120 i have compared all the sites as well as also using the ones that dont use comparison sites and they are all coming up more expensive than my renewal.

i then called esure my renewal company to add my speeding points on which i have never had which were 3 points. he then told me that means it will go up another £395
therefore my car insurance is now £1537

i am 37 years old 10 years driving and 8 years no claims
i am only driving a bmw 118d so nothing too fast

also on my renewal are 2 notes from a bump i had where the man accepted responsibility and insurance all went through his insurance
and also i scraped my car on a railing but paid for this our my own pocket

i have just asked for a quote on hastings and they advised they would not insure me - however when i took off those 2 incidents above it gave me a price with my 3 points of £817???

    how can this be

please help i really dont understand why it is so high

    thanks
