Also some insurers will want a written explanation as to why you've now got a gap in your cover.
Any update to the problem ?
ie What are you doing about it ?0 -
I emailed Comparethemarket about it within a few minutes of discovering the problem and got an automated reply a moment later saying that they'd get back to me in no later than 24 hours.
That was 6 days ago (30/06) and so far no response.0 -
Although people have found this very useful, I would stress like others have to be very careful when using tools such as the job picker.
If it describes exactly what you do but in a slightly different way to what you thought you should put, fine, but if you change it to something completely different, based on the new insurance act where you have to now go above and beyond to disclose everything that's not only reasonable but that you THINK might be reasonable, you could come into a lot of trouble when trying to make a claim.0 -
Many car insurance companies are now asking for my 'TRACKING DEVICE NUMBER', when I am trying to get a new quote. I do not have a tracking device. I researched how much it cost to install one, it is about £300 plus labour.
Do you know of any car insurance companies who doesnt ask for this tracking device?
Or if any car insurance companies would install one?
Thanks alot, Katherine0 -

Most Companies do not REQUIRE tracking devices - many will offer you a reduction if you fit one -
They must be "Thatcham approved" devices, but this may be false economy - myself, for example - I pay less than £300 for two cars comprehensive for two people - so to pay £300 for a device that would, perhaps, save £50 pa is not worth it
Try Aviva - they do not require a device but may offer you a reduction if you fit one !!
Whether it makes financial sense - depends on your premium0 -
Just used comparethemarket and saw my auto-renewal with Tesco at £362.40 go down to £100.46 with LloydsBank.
A total saving of £261.94
I'm very pleased!!! :j:j:j0 -
I'm panicking now, having seen the post above about the comparethemarket website not putting through to the insurer all the details that the buyer entered. I only just renewed my insurance this morning!
Something else that is bugging me - I have had a claim put in against my insurance by someone claiming that while our cars did not touch at all, he had to swerve into a kerb to avoid hitting me and wants my insurance to pay out for new alloy wheels. He is a complete joker because he was speeding down the outside of a queue of traffic, completely unwilling to stop - the whole thing was his fault. I have tried without success to find a search engine that allows me to record this accurately, and they don't.
I cannot say "no collision - third party damage only - no personal injury - liability still in dispute". I have tried to get my existing insurer to provide me with better information (not to mention representation) but they have stayed schtum. In the end, on some sites the best I could enter into the drop-down boxes was "other/miscellaneous". If I entered it as an "accident", I had to say who was at fault (it is not mine in my view, but the insurers are duking this out allegedly), indicate that it was a collision - which it wasn't - and say how much had been paid out. Some sites won't let you say "nothing".
I hate the palaver of insurance renewal! How can I put on "I think that the claimant is committing a fraud"? If the incident was determined to be a fraud, I cannot see where I could enter that either...0 -
Confused and Gocompare both £209 with Churchill, Quidco click through to Churchill £188, less cashback of £25 eventually.
Only difference in quote being that Churchill's own site asks have you "liked" them on Facebook, so ticked yes as I did that at the same time.
Does liking them on FB really generate a 10% extra discount? I doubt that, so where is the £21 difference going?
Anyhow I'm happy as the eventual cost will be £163 against my current renewal of £220.0 -

You weren't hit and did nothing wrong and from what you say he can't prove you were at fault so don't worry about it.YorksClare wrote: »I cannot say "no collision - third party damage only - no personal injury - liability still in dispute".
From what you've said there is no dispute. He's had an accident and is looking for someone to blame and until and unless your insurer finds against you there is no claim so put none.
And if in the unlikely event that you are found to be at fault then simply call up your new insurer and tell them. Simples.YorksClare wrote: »I had to say who was at fault (it is not mine in my view, but the insurers are duking this out allegedly)
This seems to be part of the course I'm afraid.
While stationary my brother was rear-ended by another driver. They admitted liability and yet my brother's insurance has had to take the other driver's insurance to court as they are refusing to pay up!YorksClare wrote: »I hate the palaver of insurance renewal! As I said, don't. It's not a claim until it's a claim and if their claim against you is eventually successful then you tell your new insurer.0 -
I have just bought insurance from another company but found that Co-op Eco insurance had taken money from bank account even though there was no option to opt in or out of auto renewal. They claimed it was on the renewal letter but I believe that they have to have this in the online process since that is how I signed up for the policy in the first place. (Consumer Act 2015)
They have agreed to refund the premium and will not charge any cancellation fee; just as well as I would have fought this.0
