    hey dont you worry- we have already had that chat!!! when she does get a steady boyfriend and she feels 'ready' then she will tell me and we will go to see doc. i'm fine with all that stuff..
    not all teenagers want to jump into bed with just anyone you know- contrary to what you have heard..x

    Sorry, didn't mean to speak out of turn, just thought better to be safe than sorry. While it sounds like you are very close, you never know what pressures she might have been put under from her friends and there may be some subjects she doesn't feel comfortable talking to you about. A steady boyfriend that you bring home to meet mum is one thing, a holiday romance is another.

    Anyway, as I said didn't mean to be in-delicate and certainly didn't mean to offend.

    :D

    2 weeks ago I booked my 1st holiday in 4 years and thanks to my period coming unusually early last month I now realise that I will have my period from the day I arrive on holiday till the day we leave :mad: i'm really gutted.

    I actually can't take the pill but I also like to live as naturally & chemical free as I possibly can - so tablets & medicines are not an option. I asked a friend of mine who is very good with more holistic remedies and he suggested drinking alot of Raspberry Leaf Tea.

    I know that this is used to induce labour and has miscarriage risks in the early stages of pregnancy... but does anyone know if it might alter my cycle if I am not pregnant? And I know there are recommended limits - but do these matter if i'm not pregnant?

    i've only been able to find articles that say it was safe to use after 32 weeks of pregnancy (2 articles by the same research group).... nothing particularly relating to the menstrual cycle.

    here's the section of a review called "Herbal medicinal products during pregnancy: are they safe?" by E. Ernst, BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology 109 (3), 227–235.

    "Raspberry leaf
    A small retrospective study of raspberry leaf tea in
    childbearing women suggested a decreased likelihood of
    premature or overdue labour and of medical intervention in
    labour33. The study sample comprised only 51 women who
    had taken the herbal medicine product during pregnancy;
    thus it had insufficient power to detect adverse events. The
    herbal medicine product was not associated with any
    childbirth complications, and no evidence of long term
    teratogenic effects were found. In view of its stimulant
    effect on the uterus, the herbal medicine product should,
    however, not be recommended during pregnancy."

    There is an article which looks like it might contain more useful information, but I don't have access via my university:
    Therapeutic constituents and actions of Rubus species
    Patel, A.V., Rojas-Vera, J., Dacke, C.G.
    Current Medicinal Chemistry 11 (11), pp. 1501-1512

    If anyone can get that, it may explain the way in which the raspberry leaf tea acts on the body, which will determine how long it's actions will last.

    "Raspberry leaf...... In view of its stimulant effect on the uterus..."

    thanks so much for that melancholly... that quote looks quite promising! I cant find anything apart from references to it during pregnancy - which is obviously no use to me.

    I looked up the reference you mentioned and it says this;
    Abstract
    Tea made from the leaves of Rubus idaeus L. (raspberry) has been used for centuries as a folk medicine to treat wounds, diarrhoea, colic pain and as a uterine relaxant. Extracts of dried raspberry leaves prepared with different solvents, (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform and methanol) were tested in vitro for relaxant activity on transmurally stimulated guinea-pig ileum. The methanol (MeOH) extract exhibited the largest response and also indicated that the active compounds are of a relatively polar nature. Hence the bulk of the leaves were extracted with methanol and the dried extract fractionated on a silica gel column, eluting with chloroform, mixtures of chloroform and methanol and finally methanol. Each fraction was examined by thin layer chromatography and tested for relaxant activity in an in vitro transmurally stimulated guinea-pig ileum preparation. The fractions eluted with chloroform (CHCl3) lacked relaxant activity. Samples eluted with CHCl3/MeOH (95:5) had moderate relaxant activity, while a second distinctive peak of activity eluted with a more polar solvent mixture (CHCl3/MeOH 50:50) provided strong dose dependent responses. Evidence was obtained that there are at least two components of raspberry leaf extract which exhibit relaxant activity in an in vitro gastrointestinal preparation.

    But that kind of means very little to me i'm afraid.

    I have ordered some organic raspberry tea & am going to get a tincture as well... it's worth a try.. tho I have no idea how much alot is!

    ktb, you really need to balance taking noristherone (which is only one hormone not the full "pill") against the effects your period will have on your holiday.
