I'd advise a quick visit to the docs if she's planning to do anything that would stop her periods. Maybe she could try the small, thin tampons?

you can definately get tablets to stop periods but there is a limit as to how close you have to start them.
might be worth seeing if she can get an appt tomorrow with her doc.

I doubt there's anything you can buy OTC so seeing her GP is the only answer. She needs to be aware that it may be too late to start taking anything, and there may be side effects which take a while to settle down. Not something to just leap into, IMO.

Again, may be a bit late, but would a Mooncup be the answer? Huge thread somewhere ...

is eugynon like the Pill? I assume it is. How long can it delay a period for? I am on holiday in July but I am unable to predict when my period is due as this month it was a week late. It may do the same for the next two months, but who knows? I've got a supply of the mini-pill (progesteron only) cos i gave it up as it made me very grumpy. So, I can choose between grumpy and period-free or happy with gut-ache. :(

A GP can prescribe Norethisterone to delay a period, but it needs to be started a week to 10 days before you're due, although the earlier the better so she'll have to get a wriggle on.

Norethisterone can be started only 3 days before you are due. TBH it stops the bleeding but you can still get PMT, bloating etc. Take it for longer than 2 weeks and you do risk getting spotting.

Best thing to have done would have been to take it a month before to delay the previous period to a couple of weeks before the holiday.

There are many different pills available, so a visit to the GP should sort her out.

  • Take daughter & go to your dr and explain, there is a tablet that holds back periods, you start again after three days from stopping medication, it worked for me.

    from netdoctor.co.uk:

Norethisterone is a very effective way of delaying a period when it would be inconvenient, and this is especially true at holiday times.

It is taken in a dose of 5mg three times a day starting three days before the period is due, and continued until such time that it becomes convenient again to have that period.

I got something from the doctor when i was due my period when i was sitting exams, it then moved my cycle about so it was due on holiday a few months later so he was happy enough to give me it again. Worked well.
