Nothing against OP here but I'd like to know why her daughter wants to stop her period? It' natural for women to have a period and if it were my daughter I would not want her to do anything unnatural.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I believe the OP was explaining her daughter doesn't get on with tampons and uses towels and didn't want this to spoil her holiday.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Because she is going on holiday and on the beach i am guessing. She uses towels so this would mean she was unable to swim, sunbath.
Taking the pill in 'unnatural'. I am sure none of these medications will cause any damage, and neither would the contraceptive pill which they are sister to."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." The girl in question is 17 and does not need her mothers approval. As it stands I think it's great that she feels able to discuss this with her mother and is being supported in her decision to do so.0 -
Sounds harsh but I have to agree with Black Sturn here. Not so much because the pill is 'unnatural', but the medicalisation of a really minor thing.
Is stopping a period for a holiday worth the doctor's appointment, the drugs etc???
Any medication is not without risk, if she's on the pill etc there's a reason for it, but to ask for a pill to stop period because of a holiday / looking good in a bikini's not something I think the NHS is for...
I know that this is slightly off topic and is not meant to judge the OP but I do think that it's despiriting."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -
I don't know about stopping a period, but just a comment about the tampons. I never used them myself, as whenever I tried them I just couldn't get the hang of it, and if you do it wrong (not far enough, wrong size) then it can be very uncomfortable. Then a friend told me she put vaseline on one, and hey presto, the...erm...application was easy and not having to use vaseline again, I've never had problems since. It was a godsend. For future reference your daughter might want to give them more trys in the future.:wall:0

Gosh, is it really a big deal? The OP asked for advice, not opinions on whether it's right or wrong - and such a trivial thing to argue against! Her daughter is 17, let her enjoy her holiday without worrying about her period!0

I wish Id known about this before I went on hols. I got my period while on holiday and was gutted. I would have loved to delay it till I got back. I know its best not to interfere with these things but I had tummy ache, felt bloated and uncomfortable and I just wanted to sunbathe and have fun0

Thanks for the tip - not that I can make use of it for now- but I've always struggled with tampons, feeling uncomfortable. Must've tried a dozen times or more over the years.

the doctor put me on the pill for a week before my gcse's, so that was at 16, mum was the one who suggested it i imagine.
Now i am on injections and no periods. bliss. The periods you get on the pill are not "natural" anyway, just whoever designed it imagined women wanted to bleed so built in some false bleeding to the design. Good old men0
