    Hi Fleago, Loonywitch,
They've been asking for serial no then saying switch it off for 24, 48, 72 hours (it's varied on different live chats) then try again since Saturday!
John Lewis tech support seemed to ahve specific knowledge that it was the interface with the database holding the serial nos (and matching them to machines presumably) that was causing problems. MCJA I don't think you can get it entered directly and registered, otherwise they'd presumably have just entered them manually by now. I'd say hold tight but keep the pressure on-- this has got to get resolved soon. How about everyone keeps posting comments on the Nook facebook page

    https://www.facebook.com/nookGB?fref=ts

    or email them here

    customerservice@nook.co.uk

and we'll see if we can shame them into sorting out this situation?

I've just filled in their online customer service satisfaction survey too...they didn't do very well!

I've already put in a call to Radio 4's daily consumer show you and Yours to see if they are interested in following up the story.

I want to shame them publicly but its a present! I'd say shame them on twitter and use hashtags...after all they can't delete your tweet :)

This has been a pr disaster for them, when they should have made it !
The fact that the new s/w is supposed to be distributed now, and their servers have died doesn't bode well for people who want to BUY from them, luckily not me, I get my free books from Amazon, then read them on the kindle app.
I registered mine weeks ago but get an error on startup in the morning about "problem connecting" but at least I can use mine.
Unfortunately until you can register them you cant even root them (the rooting works but when you startup it will not pass the android screen) so you have an expensive brick until the fix it.
    Hopefully not much longer now.
Look on the happy side people it is a GOOD ereader, and you can get lots of FREE books for it.

BTW they still haven't refunded me for my returned nook (returned to them on 16th by UPS bounce) have raised a CC chargeback.
My 2 from Very I am happy with.

To get the Kindle app on you need to root it, which you can't do until it is activated. bit of a catch 22 there.

But I can happily read all my FREE kindle books on my Nook.

Sorry I am a bit confused - do you have to register it with Nook, is that essential?

Also, how do you tell if it is a US version?

    Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately you do and unfortunately it is essential.

And if you check the back of the sleeve in the bottom right hand (I think!) corner, it says there whether its UK or US. I was a little concerned because Argos had sold a batch without realising they had been sent the US version not so long back.

I am quite worried about this; as previously mentioned I bought this a few weeks ago but haven't done anything with it yet as it a present for OH's birthday.

I have also ordered a charger from Curry's that is on its way:eek:

If the worst happens and it won't work, is it possible to get a refund for both the Nook and the charger?

I think I got lucky. It would seem I already had an account with Nook? (Maybe with B&N when I tried to buy one through them). I was able to set up one of my Nooks straight through.

    Phew.
