I decided to return my Nook bought in Argos for three reasons:
    - the lack of built in light means that it can be used only in a well lit room and a daylight, therefore half of the time when I would like to use it (evenings), I cannot due to insufficient light
    - it cannot read .txt and .doc files (sometimes i would like to read documents from my work on the bus)
    - it is not possible to synchronise anything else except books purchased from B&N between the Nook and the Nook app on my Galaxy S3. I loved android Nook app and was disapointed that the synchronise function does not work.

For this reason I decided to order Kindle Paperwhite.

It won't go past the connecting to the Internet stage to allow us to continue with setup. What did you do that was different?

The website is now acknowledging the problem and simply stating they'll fix it

I don't know. I just switched it on and followed the online setup. Maybe I had one that was working with the numbers, I don't know. I still need to set up the other one but have to wait until hubby's at work today before I can get it out the packaging.
It asked me for Internet, picked up my home Internet account, I input password and it connected straight away. Then asked me to set up an account which I went to do and it said email already registered so I logged in as I would if I had an account.

I am sorry I don't have any 'I did xxxx(insert magic words)' to help everyone else who has helped me buy them in the first place.

Did you try downloading Calibre to convert your documents? It's a brilliant programme and really easy to use. This obviously won't change the other things you don't like.

I couldn't read off the kindle white - it would hurt my eyes. I have the original Sony and despite its slowness in turning pages, the fact it needs a new battery and that you can't connect to wifi, I wouldn't change ot! Feels far more robust xx

    NOOK FIGHT BACK TIME??

Since Barnes and Noble/Nook seem to be very unresponsive on solving the issue of registering new Nooks to make them work and aren't even bothering to keep us informed about the probelm and their attempts to solve it...how about we start a fight back to put the pressure on.

I've just been to the Nook Uk Facebook Page. I asked for an update on the problem and the message was deleted. A second message objecting to the deletion currently remains. However, I've just thought up a new guerrrilla tactic - the page is full of book recommendations so i've commented on "Robson Green's Extreme Fishing"
" Not my sort of thing but I couldn't read it on Nook anyway because I can't register my new nook and B/N don't seem to be getting their finger out or telling us all what's going on."

How about if we got as many people as we could to start posting similar comments on as many of the recommendations as they can manage? This might work as a bit of naming and shaming and also spread the word. What do you all think?

just done a few, - Gulliver's Travels, Frugal Featss, Lionel Shriver, Fleming, surprisingly satisfying, any joiners?.

One worked one didn't. How frustrating.

Edited: Just spoken to Customer Services in my best cheesy "please help me, I am a carppy female" voice, and they have said that if after 72 hours it is still not registering then to call them back and they will start the next process (?) to get it working. Very apologetic lady though.

    Mcja,
They've been saying that since Saturday! another 72 hours will make it almost a week, It took less time to create the world! They need to be open and honest about this and tell us waht is going on, why and when they'll fix it. That's the basic minimum that any sensible Customer service and PR depts would be telling them. Let's face it, if they can't get the easy human bit right, how can we trust them to get the complex technical stuff right ? On current showing we can't.
If this isn't sorted by the weekend my two nooks are going back. If they'd toldl me at the weekend what the problem was and that it would take several days to sort, I'd be waiting patiently instead of furiously beating myself over the head with a useless Nook as I am now!

I urge everyone in this situation to make their feelings known on any available comment space on the Nook Facebook page

Mine has got 2 weeks (fathers day) if its not fixed by then I will ram it where the sun don't shine on someone!!

I did post on their site but it got taken off, not deleted as I can still access it but they replied to my general query not when I asked what I do if that doesn't work.

    I've been Money Tipped!
My Very order has been pushed back until 14th June!!
They were nice enough when informing me though. That was a credit to them and hope they honour the £15.
