Looking for a site where I can download (free) autobiography's on people in European football such as Wenger, Mourinho, Ferguson, Beckham, Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo, Guardiola, Benitez, Gerrard, Owen, van Persie etc.

Any ideas? PM me directly if prefer not to post. Thanks

    Debbie,
I am not sure the "reduced price" will end. The problem will be trying to get hold of one! Barnes and Noble/Nook are trying to take on the very successful Amazon Kindle, so making the basic kit cheap gets it into the hands of lots of new customers makes sense (if it was the same price as the already established, tried and well supported Kindle why would you take the risk of going to Nook?). BN expect to make their money long term from the software (e-books, mags etc) so selling the most basic hardware at a knockdown price is a smart move.

I imagine they'll also be hoping their new customers like the product, get hooked and migrate up the e-reader/tablet food chain to more expensive products over time(ereaders may largely disappear with the growing popularity and improvement of small tablets). It's a sensible strategy which Barnes and Noble haven't thought through or implemented successfully because they've failed to see it from the customer's point of view.

Because it's a good machine at a low price, demand has been huge and stocks have been flying off the shelves, leaving customers waiting and frustrated (not good). Supplies and information have been erratic (also not good). Barnes and Noble then had a disastrous server problem which stopped new customers registering and using their Nooks(bad). They compounded that issue by trying to hide it and stay quiet instead of coming clean and trying to win over customers' trust that they would deal with it quickly, efficiently and make up for the problem (really bad). They still haven't offered any real apology or recompense to the customers they let down and treated poorly(oh so bad!)

So Barnes and Noble have a good product that matches Kindle at a fraction of the price...but they've no also shown themselves to be unreliable, technically incompetent, untrustworthy, cowardly, poor at communication and not very in touch with customers' needs. Whereas Amazon is consistently good at supporting customers and products, provides a good buyer/user experience and communicates well. So it becomes a balance :

You can have a good, cheap e-reader (nook) with possibly a poor customer experience from a company that doesn't seem good at looking after its customers.

Or an equivalent expensive machine (kindle) from a company you know will deliver and prioritises support for it's customers and products.

John Lewis let me preorder and called me to confirm purchase when the stock came into their central warehouse..and with JL you get a two year guarantee for no extra cost.If you want a Nook that's the way I'd suggest.

p.s. My kids like their new nooks, now that they finally work,me, I'm sticking to my three year old kindle and Amazon.

but....... perhaps tainted by what happened to you .

The Nook's have been on sale at this price for a month ish now with only last weekend being problematic on registering.

For the last 3/4 weeks there was no problem in registering , unless people faulted at the register a card bit or not.

We bought a 'glowlight' version 2 weeks ago and we have had no problem, the firmware has even updated its self over the last weekend.

Thursday last we received a 'simpletouch', which is off to the USA for my daughter, which registered no problem. Friday is when the B&N server problems started.

    These things happen :-(
look at the mobile company 3 , or the various banks that had tinternet / atm / problems. If some one had bought / taken an account / phone up just at that time then they most certainly have felt annoyed.

I have know idea what B&N's sale policy is , but the USA side of things has not seen the same price drop ..... makes a change!

One thing that may make a big difference is if B&N do implement the proposed firmware update that effectively performs the same action as rooting . this will make it simpler for those who dislike tinkering , and those who wish to keep the warranty. It was supposed to come into effect this past weekend , it didn't. Could be it was linked to the server problem ?

So IMHO B&N have done every thing I could have expected and promised more, I therefore will wait a little before I say if they are good , bad ,better, worse.

I decided to return my Nook bought in Argos for three reasons:
    - the lack of built in light means that it can be used only in a well lit room and a daylight, therefore half of the time when I would like to use it (evenings), I cannot due to insufficient light
    - it cannot read .txt and .doc files (sometimes i would like to read documents from my work on the bus)
    - it is not possible to synchronise anything else except books purchased from B&N between the Nook and the Nook app on my Galaxy S3. I loved android Nook app and was disapointed that the synchronise function does not work.

For this reason I decided to order Kindle Paperwhite.

Sorry you didn't like it, but for those reading this tread wondering if a nook is right for them, I must add:

    - nook simple touch does not have a backlight and never will. It's not that level (re expense) of product. Simply get a pound land clip light if u need to read in the dark. (Or spend over twice the cost of the nook simple touch.)
    - the free programme Cablire will 'translate' all sorts of document types into a format the nook can use. It is fee and takes only seconds.

23rdspiral is right! Calibre is a brilliant programme. D/l it ages ago to use with Sony because I found their library a pain to use. This is so simple and I can turn PDF docs into ePub with ease

yup, entirely based on my customer experience. I didn't have a strong view on Nook or B&N before that. I'd have been happy enough if Barnes and Noble had simply been upfront admitted the problem and dealt with but they tried to pretend it wasn't happening, then failed to give any information/explanation or to tell us when the problem might be solved. A lot of people were left assuming it was a hardware problem and a lot of unnecessary upset and frustration was caused because B&N were scared to talk to their customers. I got more detail from a five minute conversation with John Lewis than I did with three days of trying to talk to B&N. That's really shabby. These things do indeed happen and you judge a company on how they deal with them.

B& N have done nothing yet to suggest they've learned from the experience or will look after customers better if another problem were to arise.

So my view now is that Nook Simple Touch is a good alternative to Kindle touch at a fraction of the price but I don't think Barnes and Noble is a good alternative to Amazon in terms of product support or customer experience at this point. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
