Sorry if I am being a donut but....if I have bought my son a Nook that I want to give him next Monday (and one for hubby for Dads Day) I would be safer trying to get through to B&N directly to register them before I give them as gifts?

    How blooming ridiculous.

Well, I would, mcja, rather than take your chances and wait for them to do whatever else they aim on doing to add all the new Nooks to the database. There's always the chance that the manually inputted ones will be done before they fix the whole problem.

But who knows, really! I don't suppose it can do any harm to draw their attention to our actual Nooks.

Thanks Fleago. Will try and get through later.

Argh! Same problem!! Arrived today and was a bit worried because it has the US address at the bottom. Could this be the problem?

Loonywitch, mine has the US address on the bottom of the box too, but on the very bottom of the back of the box is the UK website address on the right and on the left it says UK version. It seems to be a problem with the serial numbers not being on their database.

Just checked the sleeve (stupidly didn't before) and it says UK version! On hold on the phone AND waiting for a Customer Service Associate online at the same time! I remember gettin my Sony ereader and didn't have to register before starting to use.

Update! Just had a conversation with a CSA for Nook and was advised slightly different. She took SN of Nook stating that she had to forward details as they logging how many are affected and was advised to try again in 24 hrs. She said they believe its a problem with the servers but they're are not sure how long it will take to fix

    Hi Fleago, Loonywitch,
They've been asking for serial no then saying switch it off for 24, 48, 72 hours (it's varied on different live chats) then try again since Saturday!
John Lewis tech support seemed to ahve specific knowledge that it was the interface with the database holding the serial nos (and matching them to machines presumably) that was causing problems. MCJA I don't think you can get it entered directly and registered, otherwise they'd presumably have just entered them manually by now. I'd say hold tight but keep the pressure on-- this has got to get resolved soon. How about everyone keeps posting comments on the Nook facebook page

    https://www.facebook.com/nookGB?fref=ts

    or email them here

    customerservice@nook.co.uk

and we'll see if we can shame them into sorting out this situation?

I've just filled in their online customer service satisfaction survey too...they didn't do very well!

I've already put in a call to Radio 4's daily consumer show you and Yours to see if they are interested in following up the story.
Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!

I just got a message from Nook after I emailed them I think saturday morning saying basically what they already told all of you but looks like they are going to do something and its a problem with the B&N server/network rather than the Nook.
